Transcurrido más de un mes y medio de la muerte del periodista Fausto Valdiviezo, asesinado el 11 de abril de 2013 en Guayaquil, nueve personas han sido detenidas como sospechosas por estar presuntamente involucradas en el crimen. Las detenciones más recientes ocurrieron el lunes 27 de mayo, con la captura de Ingrid Soraya León Bermúdez, identificada por la Policía como presunta autora intelectual del asesinato del periodista y su sobrina, quien horas antes se habría entregado de manera voluntaria haciéndose pasar por su tía para comprobar si había las garantías necesarias para la entrega. El ministro del interior José Serrano ofrecía una recompensa de $50 mil a quienes den con el paradero de León Bermúdez y otro sospechoso aún que está prófugo.
La noche del 22 de mayo el Ministro del Interior, informó a través de su cuenta de twitter sobre la detención de siete sospechosos involucrados en la muerte de Valdiviezo y de dos más que fueron posteriormente liberados. Esa detención ocurrió tras un operativo efectuado por miembros del Grupo de Intervención y Rescate, quienes allanaron de manera simultánea cuatro viviendas ubicadas en una zona exclusiva de Guayaquil.
Según reportes de la prensa, en dicho operativos se encontraron cuatro vehículos, así como dinero en efectivo y supuestas evidencias de actividades «de acopio y envío de drogas», lo que hace pensar a la policía de que se trata de una banda vinculada al tráfico de drogas, usura y trata de personas.
Al respecto el ministro Serrano había afirmado públicamente que esa evidencia establecía una relación «inusual» entre el periodista y los sospechosos del crimen cometido, pero estas declaraciones generaron el rechazo de los familiares del periodista, quienes enviaron una carta al Ministro para que esclareciera el tipo de relación del que hablaba el funcionario ya que consideraron que el término de “inusual”, ensucia la memoria del periodista.
Tras esto, Serrano dijo, en entrevista con el canal en manos del Estado GamaTV, que de ninguna manera se está inculpando al periodista de algún tipo de actividad criminal y aseguró que serán los jueces los que determinen con precisión los hechos
. “Se ha determinado una relación inusual que es la que se tiene que ir dilucidando, lo fundamental es que iniciamos una investigación frente a un crimen lamentable y nos encontramos con una banda que estaba operando en la ciudad de Guayaquil”, apuntó Serrano quien también aseguró que gracias a los indicios encontrados como: llamadas telefónicas, vehículos, etc. han podido detener a los primeros sospechosos y comenzar a esclarecer el asesinato.
Finalmente, en rueda de prensa el Ministro anunció que se llamará a declarar a nuevos sospechosos e incluso a un periodista del canal de TV Ecuavisa, quien estuvo presente durante la entrega a las autoridades de la principal sospechosa, Ingrid Soraya León Bermúdez.
Government presents suspects of murdering journalist
More than a month and a half after the death of journalist FaustoValdiviezo, murdered on 11 April 2013 in Guayaquil, nine people have been arrested as suspects of having been allegedly involved in the crime.The most recent arrests occurred on Monday, 27 May with the capture of Ingrid Soraya León Bermúdez, identified by the Police as the alleged mastermind of the journalist’s murder, and her niece, who hours earlier had voluntarily surrendered pretending to be her aunt to check if the necessary guarantees for handing herself in were in place.The Minister of the Interior, José Serrano, had offered a reward of $ 50,000 to anyone who provided information about the whereabouts of León Bermúdez and another suspect who is still at large.
On the evening of 22 May the Minister of the Interior, through his twitter account, reported the arrest of seven suspects involved in Valdiviezo’s death and two more who were later released.Those arrests occurred after an operation carried out by members of the Intervention and Rescue Group, who simultaneously raided four homes located in an exclusive area of Guayaquil.
According to press reports, the operation led to the discovery of four vehicles, cash and alleged evidence of activities related to the «collection and delivery of drugs,» which suggested to the Police that they are dealing with a gang linked to drug trafficking, usury and people trafficking.
Minister Serrano publicly stated that this evidence established an «unusual» relation between the journalist and the crime suspects. His declarations were rejected by the journalist’s relatives who sent a letter to the minister asking for clarification of the type of relation mentioned by the official and stating that the term «unusual» dirties the journalist’s memory.
Serrano replied in an interview with seized TV station GamaTV that he was in no way accusing the journalist of any type of criminal activity and asserted that it will be the judges who determine the facts accurately.»An unusual relationship has been found and it needs to be elucidated. The important thing is that we have initiated an investigation into what was a deplorable crime and we have found a gang that was operating in the city of Guayaquil», said Serrano who also said that thanks to the evidence found, such as:phone calls, vehicles, etc., they have been able to arrest the first suspects and begin to solve the case.
Finally, at a press conference the minister announced that new suspects will be called to testify, even an Ecuavisa TV station journalist who was present during the surrender to the authorities of the prime suspect, Ingrid Soraya León Bermúdez.
