El 8 de septiembre de 2014 el secretario jurídico de la Presidencia de la República, Alexis Mera, en declaraciones para el medio de gobierno El Ciudadano, afirmó que el Presidente Rafael Correa participará como “tercer ofendido” y se mantendrá pendiente de la denuncia planteada por el abogado Fernando Larrea, contra el exeditorialista de diario El Universo, Emilio Palacio, el exasambleísta Cléver Jiménez y el ciudadano Esteban Saltos, por presunta asociación ilícita.
Al respecto, Mera aseguró lo siguiente: “Nos hemos presentado como terceros ofendidos porque Palacio está insinuando que el presidente ha viajado secretamente en aviones privados, es falso y por eso hemos comparecido al proceso”, según publicó El Ciudadano.
Por su parte, el Presidente, a través de su cuenta de Twitter preguntó a sus seguidores si “alguien ha leído o visto en los medios mercantilistas algo sobre el increíble intento de involucrar al Presidente con el narcotráfico (…) Increíble espíritu de cuerpo y deshonestidad periodística !Prohibido olvidar!” apuntó el Primer Mandatario .
El 17 de agosto de 2014 Larrea, abogado de la compañía estadounidense SkyJet Elite, de propiedad de sus sobrinos, los ecuatorianos Juan Pablo y Eduardo Larrea, presentó la denuncia ante la Fiscalía por considerar que los denunciados se unieron para ensuciar la imagen del Gobierno, utilizando el nombre de su sobrino Eduardo, quien fue director de Aviación Civil. Esta denuncia se produjo después de que la cadena Univisión revelara que tres aviones de esta compañía fueron retenidos para investigación por la agencia antinarcóticos de Estados Unidos. De igual manera, esta cadena reveló que las operaciones de dicha compañía estaban siendo investigadas por el exasambleísta Cléver Jiménez, quien sospechaba que una de las aeronaves prestaba secretamente servicios a altos funcionarios del gobierno ecuatoriano.
President will participate as a third ofended in lawsuit against journalist and former Assemblyman
On September 8th, 2014 the legal secretary of the Presidency of the Republic, Alexis Mera, speaking for the government journal El Ciudadano said that President Rafael Correa will participate as a «third offended» and will remain pending of the complaint made by the attorney Fernando Larrea, against the former El Universo editorialist Emilio Palacio, the former assembly man Cléver Jimenez and the citizen Esteban Saltos, for alleged conspiracy.
In this regard, Mera said that: «We have submitted as a thrid offended because Palacio and others are suggesting that the president has traveled secretly in private jets, which is false and therefore have appeared to the process,» according to The government journal.
For his part, the President, through his Twitter followers asked if «anyone has read or seen in the media about the mercantilist amazing attempt to involve the president with drug trafficking (…) Incredible esprit de corps and journalistic dishonesty! spaces forget! «said the president.
On August 17th, 2014 Larrea, lawyer of the American company SkyJet Elite, owned by his nephews, Ecuadorian Juan Pablo and Eduardo Larrea, filed the complaint with the Prosecutor on the grounds that the defendants combined to tarnish the image of the government, using the name of his nephew Edward, who was director of Civil Aviation. This complaint came after Univision revealed that three aircraft of this company were retained for investigation by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency. Similarly, this chain revealed that the operations of this company were under investigation by the exasambleísta Cléver Jimenez, who suspected that one of the aircraft secretly provided services to senior officials of the Ecuadorian government.
