El 24 de abril de 2014 un grupo de ecuatorianos migrantes en Madrid fue víctima de censura por parte de guardias de seguridad, quienes retiraron y destruyeron su pancarta en protesta a la explotación petrolera de una parte del Parque Nacional Yasuní, a propósito de la visita del presidente Rafael Correa al país ibérico.
En diálogo con Fundamedios Aida Quinatoa-conocida activista y líder dela Plataforma de Afectados por las Hipotecas en España- narró que junto a 10 familias de compatriotas, acudió al Palacio Vistalegre en Madrid para un encuentro con el Presidente para expresar lo que sentían a través de un cartel cuya leyenda decía: “Yasuní no se toca se defiende”. Sin embargo, de esa leyenda solo les quedó la palabra “Yasuní”, tras ser accionados por los agentes, quienes retiraron dicho letrero y la amenazaroncon detenerla si no hacía lo que le pedían, aunque esto finalmente no ocurrió.
“Pensamos que al llevar una pancarta de esa magnitud al menos la iba a leer(el Presidente), esa era la idea, pero la sorpresa fue inmensa al ver la cantidad de guardias de seguridad, agentes y policías desde que llegamos al recinto. Al menos yo, me sentí acosada porque estaban muchos. Cuando nos sentamos en la segunda fila teníamos al lado izquierdo como seis guardias de seguridad uniformados y corpulentos, mientras que al otro ladohabía almenos tres personas vestidos de civiles pero que eran agentes de seguridad. Solamente sentir que estábamos rodeados nos daban el mensaje de tener que estar quietos sin poder hacer nada, yapenas intentamos sacar la pancarta nos cayeron encima, y nos quitaron más de la mitad de esta”, apuntó Quinatoa.
La líder de los migrantes comentó que por sus características físicas los guardias de seguridad que retiraron el material parecían ecuatorianos pero afirmó que luego se acercó un guardia español y se quedó ahí hasta el final vigilándolos. “Creo que el plan de ellos era que no habláramos nada, no dijéramos nada ni que sacáramos nada” .
Una publicación de la revista digital Plan V afirma que, además de lo ocurrido con Quinatoa, otro grupo de migrantes ecuatorianos también fue impedido exponer sus reclamos en la visita presidencial, a través de una pancarta que exigía que se hable del Plan de Tierras, y se refería específicamente al manejo de una hacienda en territorio ecuatoriano, cuya redistribución iba a servir para el retorno de algunos compatriotas. Fundamedios no pudo contactarse con ellos para recoger su testimonio.
Security officers censored a banner made by Ecuadorians in Spain
April 24, 2014 a group of Ecuadorian immigrants in Madrid was victim of censorship by security guards, who removed and destroyed their banner, the Ecuadorian group was protesting against oil drilling in a part of the National ParkYasuní, trying to take advantage of the President Rafael Correa visit to Spain.
Aida Quinatoaknown as an activist and leader of the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages in Spain spoke with Fundamedios, Shenarrated that with 10 Ecuadorian families, went to theVistalegre Palace in Madrid to have a meeting with the President with the purpose of expressing their feelings through a banner whose caption said: «Yasuní is defended not touched.» However, from this banner only was left with the word «Yasuni» after being rip apart by security agents who threatened her to arrest her if she does not do what she is asked for, but in the end she didn’t get arrested.
«We believe that by bringing a banner of this size at least (the President)would read it, that was the main idea, but the surprise was overwhelming to see a lot of security guards and police officers since we got to the Palace. At least, I felt harassed because they were too many officers.
As we sat in the second row on the left side we had like six burly uniformed security guards, while on the other side were at least three people in civilian clothes but they were security officers. Only the feeling that we were surrounded gave us the message of sitting still without doing anything, and when we tried to get the banner out, security fell on us, and they took more than half of it» Quinatoa said.
The leader of the migrant community said “that by their physical characteristics the security guards that removed the banner seemed Ecuadorian. She said, then a Spanish guard came and stood there watching them until the end. «I think their plan was not letting as speak anything, not letting as say anything and not letting as showing a thing.»
A publishing article in the digital magazine Plan V states that in addition to what happened with Quinatoa, another group of Ecuadorian migrants was also forbid to present their claims in the presidential visit, through a banner the migrant group was demanding to talk about Plan de tierras“Lands project”, the land distribution would help for the return of some compatriots.
