El 3 de diciembre de 2015, varios incidentes ocurrieron en el marco de una jornada de protestas en rechazo a la aprobación de un paquete de enmiendas a la Constitución por parte del legislativo. El fotógrafo de diario El Comercio, Diego Pallero y el camarógrafo del medio digital LaRepublica.ec, Jonathan Bedón fueron agredidos físicamente. También se reportaron varios ciudadanos heridos y al menos 50 detenidos (21 detenidos confirmados, que tras la audiencia de Flagrancia desarrollada la tarde del día siguiente fueron sentenciados a 15 días de prisión por injurias).
La agresión de Pallero ocurrió en horas de la tarde, tras conocerse la aprobación del llamado “paquete de enmiendas”. Según un reporte de diario El Comercio, el comunicador fue golpeado por la Policía, durante una violenta embestida de uniformados contra manifestantes en las inmediaciones del parque El Arbolito, en el centro-norte de Quito. “El fotógrafo fue golpeado con toletes a la altura de las costillas y el pecho, cuando realizaba su trabajo informativo”, relató el diario sobre la agresión. Pallero fue atendido a las 18:15 por paramédicos de la Cruz Roja, tras lo que fue llevado a una casa de salud.
El camarógrafo Jonathan Bedón también resultó herido en las protestas cuando recibió una pedrada en momento en que los caballos de la policía montada arremetieron para dispersar a los manifestantes en la capital, según confirmó Carlos Jijón, director del medio digital.
La represión policial se sintió en horas de la tarde. El momento más crítico fue a las 17:30. A esa hora, los policías arremetieron contra los protestantes que intentaban llegar a la Asamblea a empujones, palos y piedras. Los uniformados lanzaron las primeras bombas lacrimógenas y la tensión subió. Opositores continuaron lanzando palos, botellas, piedras, incluso bengalas al ras del piso en dirección a los antimotines. Usaron las vallas del cerco contra los gendarmes .
En ese momento se habló de más de 50 detenidos entre ellos estuvo el académico y activista político César Montúfar, quien fue liberado en la noche. Desde la cuenta de twitter de @PamelaCevallosH se afirmó que Montúfar fue detenido por defender a una persona que iba a ser apresada. Otros detenidos fueron: Vicente Chato, Cristina Alarcón, Edgar Sarango, Jorge Alarcón, Gustavo Domínguez, Milton Vaca, Inti Cartuche, Pedro Alcocer, Pedro Fernández, Carlos Pástor y Alex Farinango.
Por otro lado, Carlos Pérez Guartembel, presidente de la Ecuarunari fue agredido por un piquete de policías en el Parque El Arbolito, luego fue trasladado a un hospital de la capital.
Attacks against communicators, arrests and repression in day of protests
On 3 December 2015, several incidents occurred within the context of a day of protests in rejection of the approval by congress of a package of amendments to the Constitution. A photographer for the newspaper El Comercio, Diego Pallero and the cameraman for the digital outlet LaRepublica.ec, Jonathan Bedón, were physically attacked. Several other people were also injured and there were at least 50 detainees (21 of them confirmed – they are in the Flagrancy Unit awaiting a hearing).
The attack against Pallero occurred in the afternoon, after news of the approval of the «package of amendments» reached the public. According to a report by El Comercio, the photo-journalist was beaten by police during an onslaught of uniformed officials against protesters in the area of El Arbolito Park in north central Quito. «The photographer was hit with batons on the ribs and chest as he performed his journalistic work», reported the newspaper about the attack. Pallero was treated at 18:15 by Red Cross paramedics, after which he was taken to a clinic.
Cameraman Jonathan Bedón was also injured in the protests when he was hit by a stone as the horses of the mounted police charged at the protesters in the capital, confirmed Carlos Jijón, director of the digital media outlet.

The officials threw the first tear gas bombs and tension rose. Their opponents continued to throw sticks, bottles, rocks, and even flares along the floor towards the riot police. They used parts of the fencing against the police officers.
At that time there was talk of more than 50 detainees, among them the academic and political activist Cesar Montúfar, who was released in the evening. A message sent from the Twitter account of @PamelaCevallosH stated that Montúfar was arrested for defending a person who was going to be seized. Other detainees were: Vicente Chato, Cristina Alarcón, Edgar Sarango, Jorge Alarcón, Gustavo Domínguez, Milton Vaca, Inti Cartuche, Pedro Alcocer, Pedro Fernández, Carlos Pástor and Alex Farinango.
