ENGLISH VERSION

On nationwide television a journalist is accused of “acting in bad faith” for giving out his opinion

On January 28th, 2015, on nationwide television ordered by the Communication Secretary, interrupted for seven minutes the interview and opinion radio program Democracy Informative Magazine, broadcasted by Exa- Democracia Radio, to diminish its host, Gonzalo Rosero assuring he acts in “bad faith” since he questioned the money spent by the government on communitarian small airports.

The off voice of the broadcast assured that “building small airports in far away or inaccessible areas is not, by any means, and unnecessary expenditure (…) These are not unnecessary expenses mister Rosero, it is a matter of human mobility, indigenous communities cannot be kept in isolation as they were in past old parties’ governments”.

After presenting testimonies of community habitants, Eduardo Calvas, Executive Secretary of the Amazon Region Eco Development Institute (Ecorae, for its acronym in Spanish), were presented, and he assured that “these irresponsible declarations make them see that journalist Gonzalo Rosero is seeking to diminish and destabilize a government, which since day one has been working across the whole national territory in favor of Ecuadorians”.

Finally, the broadcast concluded with the following affirmation: “Mister Rosero even when it discomforts you, the Amazon groups who have always been unattended, today they are a priority for the Citizen Revolution and therefore we will keep with these projects and all the necessary plans, because what comes first now is the human being. Mister Rosero, come, we invite you to visit our reality. Indigenous communities will not allow being diminished as past governments did, governments of old parties, old parties that you long for”.

Responding to this broadcast, Rosero said: “The people who inform the President, they act with deep bad faith. My complaint is made on behalf of the groups, who have been supporting what I have been asking, under the presumption of squandering and inefficiency in small airports (…) They are supporting with testimonies, but misinform because they ask exactly the opposite and they separate me from the real intention of my comment. Anyway, fortunately citizens know me and know that these people were forced to say what they have stated. These government’s producers cannot be justified to present these spaces which interrupt and then we have to give explanations about. Time and social patience are getting more tired. What you do is an action against your own government. Instead of educating people and inform them as you should”, stated the journalist.
