El 29 de agosto el cantante Jaime Guevara denunció públicamente, a través de su cuenta personal de Facebook, haber sido intimidado por la fuerza pública y por el Presidente de la República, tras haber hecho un gesto de “bayoneta en alto” (con el dedo medio levantado). Tras insultarlo y retarlo de “hombre a hombre”, el Primer Mandatario habría ordenado su detención.
Guevara, quien asegura que lo que hizo fue por protestar ante la represión contra los manifestantes que salieron a las calles en defensa del Yasuní, afirmó en su relato que el presidente Correa se bajó del auto y le dijo: «A ver borracho, marihuanero, si tienes algo contra mí, ven para acá (…) ven, hombre a hombre». También narró que cuando se dispuso a aceptarle el desafío y le retó a que “demostrara que ingería estupidizantes”, se vio rodeado de militares y policías.
Sobre el incidente, el Primer Mandatario aseguró en su Enlace Ciudadano No 337, que el cantante estaba en estado etílico. “Ese hombre se tambaleaba, apestaba a alcohol y tenía toda una droguería encima. Me daba tanta pena que les dije llévense a este tipo. Ha escrito en su Facebook que yo le he retado de hombre a hombre. Él ha aceptado el desafío y le ha caído mi seguridad encima. Pobrecito, Dios mío, si estornuda y se cae ese pobre tipo. Así es esa gente de mentirosa. (…) En esas condiciones no puede ambular a las 09:00 de la mañana ese pobre hombre borrachísimo, totalmente drogado lo puede atropellar un carro. De hecho alguien le debe haber contado lo que pasó porque no se acordaba de nada (…). Gente chiflada, pobrecito totalmente destrozado. Yo les insisto, mientras sea presidente no permitiré que hagan malas señas al Presidente”.
El Jefe de Estado también añadió que el mayor del Ejército Marco Montenegro fue testigo de lo ocurrido e insistió en que “si tiene algún problema conmigo ya lo vamos a arreglar”, refiriéndose al cantante.
Por su parte Guevara, conocido por su música protesta y su filosofía anarquista, rechazó lo dicho por el Presidente y en su muro de Facebook publicó: “Luego de toda una vida (58 años) de ser abstemio radical, me acabo de enterar, y nada menos que en sabatina presidencial, que el jueves 29 reciente, anduve ‘totalmente borracho’” . También agregó:“hay que reconocer la facilidad de palabra de su majestad para disparar tal cantidad de mentiras en una sola parrafada, teniendo por testigos a todos sus oyentes y hasta a un oficial de la policía”·.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, Guevara afirmó que el Presidente atentó contra su honra y buen nombre y lanzó un testimonio falso, al referirse a él en la sabatina, pues reiteró que el alcohol es una sustancia que ha detestado toda su vida. Los hechos suscitaron intensas reacciones de solidaridad con el cantante en redes sociales.
Songwritter is confronted and insulted by the President
On August 29, songwritter Jaime Guevara denounced on his Facebook account that President Correa and his security team had threatened him after he had made a “middlefinger” gesture to thepresidential caravan as it passed by. The President had stepped out of the car, insulted Guevara and ordered his detention.
Guevara argues that the gesture was a way of protest against the presidential decision to begin the oil exploitation in the Yasuní park area. He told that Correa had stepped out of the car, and insulted him: “Let´s see, drunken, pot- addict, if you have something against me come here, man to man”. Guevara also told that once he accepted the President´s challenge, he was inmediatedly surrounded by members of the President´s security team, the Police and the Armed Forces.
On his part, President Correa addressed the issue on his weekly broadcast N°337, alleging that Guevara was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place. “The man was completely drunk, and he had taken all sorts of drugs. I felt sorry for the guy, so I told my security team to remove him. Now he´s telling on Facebook that I challenged him, and that he accepted the challenge…But he could noteven stand on his own…. Such liars… he shouldn´t be walking on the street at 9h00am in such conditions, he could get hit by a car or something… Probably somebody told him about the incident because I doubt that he actually remembers it… Crazy people, poor guy, totally wasted. I insist, while I´m President I won´t allow middle finger gestures against me.”
Correa also told that Armed Forces Mayor Marco Montenegro witnessed the incident. “If [Guevara] has issues with me, we will settle it”, he added.
Guevara is well known in the Ecuadorian artistic scene for his protest music and anarchist ways. Referring to Correa´s version of the incident, he posted on Facebook: “after [58 years] of being sober, I just found out that according the official version, I had been totally drunk on August 29. We must recognize that “His Majesty” has a way with words, to be able to tell so many lies in one try, with so many people listening and even in front of a police officer”.
When Fundamedios talked to Guevara, he insisted that Correa had insulted him and harmed his honor and reputation when he called him a drunk and a drug addict during National Broadcast N°337, and that that such statement were entirely false. On the matter, many people expressed support to Guevara on social networks.
