La noche del 28 de mayo del 2014, los jóvenes Daniel S. y Alexander R. propietarios del portal primeraplana20.com fueron detenidos como sospechosos de haber realizado el hackeo a la cuenta de Twitter del presidente Rafael Correa el pasado 27 de marzo. Los ciberperiodistas fueron liberados al siguiente día por la Jueza de la Unidad de Flagrancia, tras no encontrarse pruebas suficientes que los inculpen. Sin embargo se ha señalado que la investigación continúa.
El abogado Juan Carlos Solines -excandidato a la vicepresidencia de la República por el movimiento CREO y defensor de los jóvenes- aseguró que la detención se dio cerca de las 20:00 a través de dos operativos simultáneos a los domicilios de los chicos. En ellos, cerca de 30 uniformados incautaron computadoras y celulares, tanto de los detenidos, como de sus familiares, para investigación. Este hecho que fue cuestionado por Solines por “el uso exagerado de la fuerza pública”. El abogado cuestionó, a través de su cuenta de Twitter, que se había interrogado a los jóvenes sin su presencia y publicó que “un encapuchado trató de persuadirlos para que acepten su culpa y vinculen a CREO en el supuesto hackeo de la cuenta del Presidente”.
Solines explicó que La Fiscalía se basó en dos pistas o elementos para detenerlos. El primero fue que, justo dos días antes de que se produjera el hackeo a la cuenta del Presidente, los jóvenes lanzaron al aire la página primeraplana20.com y el segundo, que la noticia que se publicó en ese portal como primicia fue justamente la que anunciaba de dicho hackeo, ocurrido a los pocos minutos de producirse el hecho.
Tras ser liberados, los jóvenes admitieron ser simpatizantes del movimiento político, pero no ser parte de él y afirmaron que su trabajo es hacer ciberperiodismo. “Lo único que hicimos fue capturar la imagen del hackeo y publicarla”, detalló diario Hoy al recoger sus declaraciones .
El hackeo de la cuenta del Presidente ocurrió la tarde del 27 de marzo. En ese entonces, el grupo denominado Anonymous Ecuador se atribuyó dicho ataque. Una vez recuperado el control de la cuenta, el Jefe de Estado culpó del hecho a la extrema derecha extranjera en complicidad con “inescrupulosos opositores nacionales”, mientras que el Ministerio del Interior y la Secretaría Nacional de Inteligencia indicaron en un comunicado que investigarán «este atentado a la seguridad interna y personal del presidente de la República (…) hasta las últimas consecuencias».
Cyber journalists were arrested for apparently hacking the President´s twitter account
On the night of May 28, 2014, young men Daniel S. and Alexander R. Owners of the websiteprimeraplana20.com were arrested as suspects of hacking the Twitter account of President Rafael Correa on 27 March. Cyber journalists were released the next day through an order by the Flagrancy Judge, after not found sufficient evidence that incriminating the young men. However it has been noted that the investigation will continue.
Attorney Juan Carlos Solines-former candidate for the vice presidency by the movement partyCREO and lawyer of the young men, said the arrest occurred about 8pm through two simultaneous operations at the young men homes. On the operations, about 30 uniformed seized computers and cell phones, also detained their relatives electronics. This fact was questioned by Mr. Solines on his twitter account questioned «the exaggerated use of public force» Mr. Solines also said thet the young men had been interrogated without his presence and posted that «a hooded guy tried to persuade them to accept their guilt and to link it to the political party CREO in the supposedly of hacking the account of the President».
Mr. Solines explained that the prosecution relied on two tracks or possible elements to arrest them. The first was that two days before the hack occurred on the President´s twitter account, the young men launched the website primeraplana20.com and the second element, that the hack news was published in this website as a headline, published within minutes away after the hack occurred.
After being released, the young men admitted to being supporters of the political party, but not being a member of it and also said that their job is to make online journalism. «All we did was capturing the image of hacking and publishing it» explained Journalist Hoy after collect their statements.
The Hacking of the President’s account occurred on March 27 afternoon. At that time, the group called Anonymous Ecuador declared being responsible for the attack. Once regained control of the account, the President blamed the foreign extreme Right in complicity with «unscrupulous national opponents», meanwhile the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of National Intelligence said in a statement that this attack will be investigated «because affected the internal and personal security of the President (…) until the last consequences. «
