El jueves 2 de mayo de 2013, salió del aire el programa radial “Hablemos claro”, que se transmitía por radio Marejada, en la provincia costera de Manabí, ubicada aproximadamente a 400 Km al suroeste de Quito. Según el director del espacio, Trajano Andrade, fue por presión del Municipio de Manta.
Andrade señaló que su programa estuvo al aire desde junio de 2012 y que siempre mantuvo una línea crítica frente a las acciones de la Municipalidad de Manta transmitiendo quejas de los ciudadanos ante problemas como la inseguridad, la falta de obras públicas, el servicio de agua potable, entre otros. Andrade aseguró que el Municipio se quejó de ello ante los principales de la radio, razón por la cual suspendieron el programa.
Por su parte, Tulio Muñoz, director de la emisora, negó que haya existido presión de la Municipalidad, manifestando que se lo suspendió porque no se lo manejaba adecuadamente. El alcalde de Manta, Jaime Estrada, aseguró que él no tuvo injerencia en el cierre del programa.
El comentarista del mismo programa radial, Guido Quijije, denunció el 11 de abril ante la Fiscalía haber recibido mensajes en su teléfono celular, en los que proferían amenazas contra él y su familia si no se callaba. Quijije indicó en su denuncia que él es un hombre tranquilo y atribuía las amenazas a la línea crítica que tienen en el programa del que es comentarista .
Trajano Andrade es abogado. Fue Concejal de Manta (1982 – 1986) y Diputado por la Provincia de Manabí (1986 – 1988) por la Izquierda Democrática. Tras ser Presidente del Director de Autoridad Portuaria de Manta (2004 – 2007) ejerció el cargo de Ministro de Transporte y Obras Públicas en el primer mandato del Presidente Rafael Correa, hasta que renunció a su cargo para ser candidato a la Asamblea Nacional Constituyente por Movimiento PAIS. Ejerció este cargo de elección popular hasta que fue expulsado de la Comisión de Legislación y el bloque oficialista tras haber protagonizado un incidente con Ricardo Patiño, actual Canciller.
Radio program in Manabí closed down
On Thursday 2 May 2013, the radio program «Hablemos Claro», broadcasted by radio Marejada in the coastal province of Manabí, was taken off the air. Manabí is located approximately 400 km southwest of Quito.According to the program’s director, Trajano Andrade, it was suspended due to pressure exerted by the Municipality of Manta.
Andrade pointed out his program had been broadcasted since June 2012 and had always maintained a critical line against the actions of the Municipality of Manta, transmitting citizens’ complaints about problems such as insecurity, the lack of public works, the water service, among others.Andrade stated that the Municipality complained about this to the radio station’s management, which is why the program was suspended.
Meanwhile, Tulio Muñoz, the station’s director, denied that any pressure had been exerted by the Municipality and stated that the program was suspended because it was not properly managed.Manta’s mayor, Jaime Estrada, said he had not interfered to get the program closed down.
A commentator of the same radio program, Guido Quijije, reported on 11 April before the Prosecutor’s Office that he had received threats on his cell phone against himself and his family if he did not shut up.Quijije stated in his complaint that he is a quiet man and attributed the threats to the critical line of the program of which he is a commentator.
Trajano Andrade is a lawyer.He was a councilman in Manta (1982 – 1986) and representative for the Province of Manabí (1986 – 1988) for the Democratic Left.After being President of the Board of the Port Authority of Manta (2004 – 2007), he served as Minister of Transport and Public Works during President Rafael Correa’s first term, until he resigned his position to run for the National Constituent Assembly for MovimientoPAIS.He exercised this position until he was expelled from the Committee on Legislation and the ruling party after an incident involving Ricardo Patiño, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs.
