El 24 de noviembre de 2015, diario La Hora dedicó dos columnas de la página B3 para publicar una réplica a pedido del Ministro del Interior, por una nota del 18 de noviembre titulada: “Para Correa, cúpula militar fue mediocre”. La nota refería al discurso dado por el Presidente tras una polémica desatada después de que la cúpula militar asistiera a la primera audiencia por un supuesto caso de lesa humanidad y que lo justificaron bajo el argumento de que iban a defender la posición institucional.
En la réplica, el Ministerio del Interior y la Policía Nacional rechazaron categóricamente dicha aseveración y afirmaron que “el titular de la noticia no guarda relación con la realidad, sino al contrario, demuestra malicia y una tergiversación a lo que manifestó el presidente, Rafael Correa, este martes 17 de noviembre, durante la graduación de policías como tecnólogos en Seguridad Ciudadana y Orden Público” . Para el Ministerio del Interior “la descontextualización de las líneas discursivas expuestas por el presidente, Rafael Correa, en la nota periodística publicada por diario La Hora, es motivo de rechazo. Esto entendiendo el derecho de la ciudadanía de obtener información veraz y precisa dada la relevancia pública del tema”.
Sin embargo, La Hora, en una nota adjunta de la redacción aclaró que “el medio tituló esa noticia con la propia intervención presidencial. Sin embargo, bajo argumentos subjetivos, no fue del agrado del Ministerio del Interior. Publicamos esta réplica, pese a que la Secretaría de Estado asegura erróneamente que es una rectificación y lo hacemos bajo la certeza de que, de no hacerlo, pese a que es injustificada, involucraría más persecuciones en contra de este medio”.
Newspaper publishes reply imposed by Ministry of Interior
On 24 November 2015, newspaper La Hora devoted two columns of page B3 to publish a reply as requested by the minister of the Interior, to an article published on 18 November titled: «Correa believes military leadership was mediocre». The article referred to a speech given by the president after the controversy arisen by the military leadership’s appearance at a first hearing for an alleged case of crimes against humanity, which it justified by saying it was going to defend the institutional position.
In the reply, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police categorically rejected that assertion, claiming that «the article’s headline bears no relation to reality, on the contrary, it shows malice and is a misrepresentation of what the president, Rafael Correa, said on Tuesday 17 November during the graduation of police officers as specialists in Public Order and Safety». For the Ministry of the Interior «the decontextualization of the president’s speech in the newspaper article published by La Hora is a cause for rejection. This is so bearing in mind the right of citizens to obtain truthful and accurate information given the public importance of the issue».
However, La Hora, in an accompanying editorial note stated that «the newspaper titled that article in accordance with the presidential speech itself. However, on subjective arguments, it was not to the liking of the Ministry of the Interior. We publish this reply, even though the State Secretariat erroneously says it is a rectification and we do it under the certainty that if we fail to do so, even though unjustified, it would entail more persecution against this newspaper».
