El 28 de febrero de 2012, parte de las instalaciones de la radio Francisco Stereo, en Quito, fueron consumidas por las llamas, tras un incendio registrado en la madrugada. Esto obligó a la emisora a salir del aire, tras verse afectadas parte de sus oficinas, incluyendo el despacho del Director, la cabina de locución, documentos de archivo, equipos de transmisión antiguos y material discográfico de colección. Este último reducido a cenizas.
El Cuerpo de Bomberos de Quito informó, a través de un boletín de prensa publicado en su página web, que recibieron el llamado de alerta sobre las 01h27 de la madrugada y, enseguida, procedieron a combatir el foco del incendio que fue localizado en una bodega ubicada en la planta baja de la estación, de propiedad de los Hermanos Franciscanos.
Según el informe de los Bomberos de Quito, la propagación de la onda de fuego también afectó la segunda planta, específicamente, a la oficina de su director, Fray Juan Luna. Sin embargo, los daños registrados dentro de esas instalaciones, localizadas al costado norte del convento de San Francisco de Quito, fueron solo materiales .
Fray Luna informó que se consumieron alrededor de 3 000 acetatos y 5 000 CD´s, así como otros materiales que se utilizaban en los diferentes programas que tenía la radio Francisco Stereo (FM) y Jesús del Gran Poder (AM). «Es decir toda la memoria histórica» se perdió, dijo, en declaraciones recogidas en un boletín emitido por el Municipio de Quito.
Al momento, la emisora permanece fuera del aire y, sus instalaciones, resguardadas por miembros de la Policía Nacional y seguridad privada.
Radio station off the air after fire
On 28 February 2012, part of Radio Francisco Stereo’s facilities in Quito were burnt down in a fire that started in the early hours of the morning.The fire, which affected part of theradio station’s offices, including the Director’s, as well as the broadcasting cabin, some files, antique broadcasting equipment and collectible recorded material, forced the station off the air.Nothing but ashes remained of the collectible material.
The Quito Fire Department informed through a press release published on its web page, that they received the call warning them about the fire at 01h27 and immediately set off for the premises. Once there, they proceeded to fight the fire, which was localized at a grocery store one floor below the radio station, which belongs to the Franciscan Brothers.
According to the Fire Department’s report, the fire also affected the second floor, especially the Director’s office, Friar Juan Luna.Fortunately however, the damage registered in the facilities, located on the north side of the Franciscan Convent of Quito, was only material.
Fray Luna reported that approximately 3000 phonograph records and 5000 CDs were consumed by the fire, as well as other material that was used in Radio Francisco Stereo (FM) and Radio Jesús del Gran Poder (AM)’s different programs.“This means all the historic memory” was lost, he said in declarations that were published by a bulletin issued by the Municipality of Quito.
The station remains off the air and its facilities are being guarded by members of the National Police and private security guards.
