El viernes 21 de octubre, Karla Jaramillo, directora de Comunicación del Municipio de Loja, ciudad ubicada a ubicada a 640 Km al sur de Quito amenazó a Patricio Salinas, director de radio Satelital, con eliminar la publicidad que da esa entidad, si no cortaban la transmisión de una entrevista en vivo que realizaban tres periodistas de la radio, a un concejal.
Esto sucedió minutos después de un incidente que protagonizó Jorge Bailón, alcalde de esa ciudad, quien ingresó sin previo aviso a la emisora e intentó impedir que se realizara dicha entrevista.
Los periodistas Patricio Salinas, Wilman Morocho y Hugo Pitisaca estaban hablando con el concejal Geovanny Aginsaca, acerca de la aprobación de unas vacaciones de dos meses para el burgomaestre, cuando este ingresó y retiró el micrófono por el que hablaba el edil y exigió que se corte la transmisión, mientras los oyentes escuchaban lo que ocurría en tiempo real .
Veinte minutos más tarde, el director de la emisora recibió la llamada de Jaramillo con la exigencia de que se corte la transmisión o se olviden de la publicidad que el Municipio da a la radio, lo que generó el rechazo de Salinas.
Por su lado, Jaramillo admitió haber mantenido una conversación con Salinas, pero rechazó la mala intención del medio ya que «quieren hacer aparecer a un pedido, como una amenaza». También aclaró que dicha solicitud se hizo para evitar malos entendidos y que la imagen del Alcalde no se vea afectada.
Municipal official threatened to withdraw advertising from radio station if it continued to broadcast interview that mayor attempted to interrupt
On Friday 21 October, Karla Jaramillo, Communications Director of the Municipality of Loja, a city located 640 km south of Quito, threatened Patricio Salinas, director of RadioSatelital, stating she would withdraw all municipal advertising from the station if they did not cut the broadcasting of a live interview of a council member by three of the radio’s journalists.
This took place minutes after an incident involving Jorge Bailón, mayor of the city, who went into the radio station without announcing himself and attempted to interrupt the interview.
Journalists Patricio Salinas, Wilman Morocho and Hugo Pitisaca were talking to councilman Geovanny Aginsaca about the authorization of a two-month holiday for the mayor, when Bailón himself burst in, took the microphone used by the municipal official and demanded that the transmission should be cut, while the listeners heard what was happening in real time.
Twenty minutes later, the radio station’s director received Jaramillo’s phone call in which she demanded that they cut the broadcasting or forget about the advertising they receive from the municipality. This generated Salinas’ rejection.
Jaramillo later admitted having had a conversation with Salinas but denied the radiostation’s version of events calling it ill intentioned, saying “they want to make a request appear as a threat”. She also stated that the request was made to avoid misinterpretations and so that the mayor’s image would not be affected.
