El 18 de enero de 2011, el programa matutino «Los Desayunos 24 Horas», conducido por María Josefa Coronel y transmitido por la estación televisiva Teleamazonas fue interrumpido por un espacio gubernamental que cuestionó los comentarios y opiniones vertidas, un día antes en ese programa, en donde se trató sobre los cuatro años de gestión del presidente Rafael Correa.
Durante casi cinco minutos y bajo el slogan de «La revolución ciudadana al país» el espacio gubernamental criticó el tratamiento que Coronel dio al balance de gestión del Presidente Correa y cuestionó su objetividad e independencia por la presencia de dos de sus invitados, los ex candidatos a la presidencia: Cinthya Viteri y León Roldós.
La «cadena» gubernamental qué únicamente se emitió por Teleamazonas reprochó que «…en este espacio de entrevistas no hubo ningún reconocimiento a la inmensa obra que se ha concretado en estos históricos cuatro años de gestión… Este espacio informativo prefirió ocultar los logros históricos de la revolución ciudadana para hacer el juego a la posición ciega de los tradicionales representantes de la partidocracia».
Sin embargo, dentro del mismo espacio gubernamental se reconoció que en el programa de María Josefa Coronel se hablaron cosas positivas y, en una parte de la narración en off se mencionó que «no hablar sobre el inmenso plan vial ejecutado, hubiese sido el colmo» .
En respuesta al gobierno, Coronel dijo que le «encantaría» debatir con todos los ministros de Estado, a quienes no se les permite acudir a su espacio, y hablar sobre todas las obras que han hecho. Así, de manera abierta, invitó al Presidente y la gente de gobierno y recalcó que, «cuando hay que rebatir, hay que hacerlo de frente y no a través de cadenas».
Cabe recordar que no es la primera vez que el gobierno utiliza este mecanismo para cuestionar a periodistas y tampoco es la primera vez que lo hace en contra de María Josefa Coronel.
Government interrupts interview program again and presenter points out ministers are forbidden from participating in it
On 18 January 2011, the morning program «Los Desayunos 24 Horas», presented by María Josefa Coronel and broadcasted by TV station Teleamazonas, was interrupted by a governmental broadcast («chain») that questioned the comments and opinions expressed a day earlier in an issue dedicated to President Rafael Correa’s four years in government.
During nearly five minutes and under the slogan «The citizen’s revolution for the country», the governmental broadcast criticized Coronel’s balance of President Correa’s administration and questioned her objectivity and independence based on the presence of two guests, former candidates to the presidency Cinthya Viteri and León Roldós.
The governmental «chain», which was only broadcasted through Teleamazonas, complained that «in this interview program no mention was made of the immense amount of work that has been completed during the historical four years of this administration… This informative program preferred to hide the historic achievements of the citizens’ revolution to play along with the blind position of the particracy’s traditional representatives».
However, it also recognized that some positive issues had been mentioned in María Josefa Coronel’s program and at one point the voice over mentioned that «not to talk about the immense highway system constructed would have been too much».
In response to the government, Coronel declared that she would «love» to debate with all the State ministers, but they are not allowed to participate in her program, and talk with them about the work they have done. She openly invited the president and the rest of the government and stressed that «if you want to refute something you should do it directly and not through «chains».
It is worth pointing out that this is not the first time the government uses this mechanism to question journalists and that it is not the first time it has used it against María Josefa Coronel.
