El 14 de agosto de 2014, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante un conversatorio con comunicadores en Loja –ciudad ubicada al sur del Ecuador- se negó a responder una pregunta que le formuló la periodista Paulina Bustamante, de diario Centinela, después de que esta se excusó con el Jefe de Estado por no preguntar lo que, con antelación, le habían asignado funcionarios estatales.
En un video que ha sido difundido por Youtube, se ve que la periodista dice al Presidente que no va leer la pregunta que le entregaron porque no es la suya y que prefiere transmitirle las inquietudes de los ciudadanos respecto a la construcción de una carretera local. “Una pregunta más y yo creo que esa estaba en la lista, incluso le enviamos el día anterior y debido a que no se la encontraba me dieron otra que la verdad no la pienso hacer y le pido mil disculpas…” dijo Bustamante.
Tras esto, el Primer Mandatario se molesta con la periodista y da por terminado el conversatorio. “Qué lástima que tengamos que terminar de esta manera, porque le he dado información y yo no acepto que se dude de la palabra del Presidente, creo que ha sido respondida su pregunta”, concluyó.
Un día más tarde, la periodista, quien ha preferido no hablar con los medios, escribió en su cuenta personal de Twitter @Paulina_Bustama: “Ahora dicen que soy enemiga del #Gobierno cuando confié en él @MashiRafael cuando aún era candidato, uno busca abrirle los ojos…” y en otro mensaje publicó: “Ahora si del árbol caído, todos quieren hacer leña, quieren que sea su juguete mediático… pero no les daré ese gusto, no irrespeté a nadie”.
En redes sociales también circuló la fotografía de la pregunta que le fue asignada a Bustamante y que pertenecía al comunicador Joffre Íñiguez, de radio Cariamanga. Asimismo, decenas de mensajes de apoyo a la periodista aparecieron en Twitter tras el incidente .
Periodistas de Loja consultados por Fundamedios aseguraron que el día anterior al conversatorio, la gobernación de Loja les había solicitado que envíen las preguntas que le harían al Presidente, por una disposición de la gobernadora de esa provincia. Tras varios intentos de conversar con la persona encargada del departamento de comunicación de esa entidad, fue imposible obtener su versión.
Journalist reveals possible censorship incident and imposition of questions in a conversation with the President
On August 14, 2014 President Rafael Correa, during a discussion with journalists in Loja -city located on the south of Ecuador- refused to answer a question made by the journalist Paulina Bustamante from Daily Sentinela, after this she apologized to the president for not asking what, in advance, state officials had been assigned her.
In a video that has been broadcast on Youtube, it is possible to see that the journalist tells the President that she will not read the question given by the state officers because it is not hers and she prefer to convey the concerns of citizens regarding the construction of a local high way. «One more question and I think that was on the list, even we send it to you the day before and because wasn’t found, they gave me another question but truly I don’t want to ask it a thousand pardons …» Bustamante said.
After this, the President got upset with the journalist and ended the discussion group. «Too bad we have to end this way, because I have given information and I do not accept doubts on the President’s word, I think your question has been answered,» he said.
One day later, the journalist, who preferred not to speak with the media, wrote on her personal Twitter account @Paulina_Bustama «Now they say I’m an enemy of the #Government when I trusted him @MashiRafael when he was a candidate, one seeks to open his eyes … «and issued another message: “Now whit the fallen tree, everybody wants firewood, they want me to be a media toy … but I won’t give them that pleasure, I won’t disrespect to anyone. «
In social networks also circulated a photograph of the question that was assigned to Bustamante and belonged to Joffre Iniguez which is a communicator from radio Cariamanga. Also, dozens of support messages for the journalist appeared on Twitter after the incident.
Journalists from Loja were interviewed by Fundamedios and said that the day prior the conversation group event, the government of Loja had requested them to send the questions that would be make to the President, was an order made by Loja’s governor. After several attempts to talk to the person in charge of the communications department of that institution, was unable to obtain his release.
