El 9 de junio de 2015 la página del medio digital informativo LaRepúblicaEc fue víctima de un ataque cibernético que lo dejó fuera del aire durante dos horas. Este hecho ocurrió mientras el portal transmitía en vivo a través de su cuenta http://livestream.com/larepublicaec un plantón organizado por ciudadanos para expresar su descontento con algunas políticas del gobierno ecuatoriano.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, Carlos Jijón, director del medio digital aseguró que se trató de un ataque “fuerte y prolongado” que ocurrió entre las 20:30 y 22:00 cuando el portal permaneció fuera de servicio, hasta que se pudo restablecer, aunque con algunos problemas técnicos, puesto que a pesar de que los servidores estaban funcionando, hasta ayer no se podía acceder desde algunos lugares de América Latina .
En ese sentido Jijón aseguró que aunque aún se investiga lo ocurrido, los técnicos sospechan que habría sido bloqueados de alguna forma a nivel de Latinoamérica, por lo que esperan un informe definitivo al respecto.
Este es el quinto ataque que sufre el portal informativo en el contexto de protestas, los más recientes ocurrieron este año el pasado 1 de mayo en el marco de las protestas por el Día Internacional del Trabajador y el 19 de marzo, en una anterior jornada de protestas.
The digital newspaper LaRepública.ec suffered a cyber-attack as it broadcasted citizen protests live
On 9 June 2015, the digital newspaper LaRepúblicaEc was the victim of a cyber-attack that left it off the air for two hours. This occurred as the portal was broadcasting live through its account http://livestream.com/larepublicaec a sit-in organized by citizens to express their dissatisfaction with some of the Ecuadorian government’s policies.
Speaking to Fundamedios, Carlos Jijón, the digital outlet’s director, stated it was a «strong and prolonged» attack that occurred between 20:30 and 22:00 when the portal went out of service, until it could be reconnected, although with some technical problems, since even though the servers were operating, until yesterday the page could not be accessed from some areas of Latin America.
Jijón said that while the incident is still being investigated, technicians believe the portal had probably been blocked at a Latin American level. They are waiting for a final report.
This is the fifth attack suffered by the information portal in the context of protests. The most recent occurred this year on 1 May in the context of protests for International Workers Day and 19 March during an earlier day protests.
