El 11 de junio de 2015 las estaciones televisivas Ecuavisa y Teleamazonas rechazaron insinuaciones de funcionarios del Gobierno de formar parte de un supuesto plan de conspiración en el marco de las recientes protestas ciudadanas convocadas en rechazo a las políticas del gobierno.
En el noticiero de Televistazo de Ecuavisa, Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros dijo que “los señores José Serrano, ministro de Gobierno, y Fernando Alvarado, secretario de Comunicación, manifestaron ayer, vía Twitter el primero, y en uno de los canales incautados, el segundo, que Ecuavisa ha estado comprometido con los manifestantes que reclaman al Gobierno por el incremento de los impuestos (…) Ante tal acusación, tenemos que decir con absoluta claridad, que Ecuavisa no asume estas actitudes en ningún caso. No azuzamos a manifestantes, ni hemos azuzado jamás”. Respecto a las manifestaciones de protesta, mencionó: “No hemos emitido opinión alguna, pero sí hemos informado como nos corresponde y es nuestro deber. Las personas que están en las calles critican o defienden al Gobierno y eso es lo que han visto los televidentes”.
Por su parte, Teleamazonas difundió un comunicado a través de Twitter mediante el cual rechazó las insinuaciones realizadas por voceros del Gobierno con la intención de involucrarlos en un plan desestabilizador. En ese sentido señaló que “reivindica el derecho de los ciudadanos y grupos sociales de expresar sus opiniones frente a las medidas que toma el Gobierno y que seguirá adelante con la defensa de la democracia y por la vigencia de un estado de derecho”.
Esto ocurrió después de que el ministro del interior José Serrano difundiera en su cuenta personal de Twitter @ppsesa una supuesta “prueba de que lo único que les interesa es sacar al presidente del poder” en donde adjuntó la captura de pantalla de un correo electrónico difundido por un usuario identificado como @DavisStars9 con el siguiente mensaje: “Paez, Lasso, Carrion, Orbe y otros así les delata su «propia gente», conspiradores golpistas, expliquen esto”. El Ministro retuiteó dicho correo el cual contenía, supuestamente en clave, directrices a seguir durante los plantones ciudadanos organizados en protesta al gobierno. Entre las siglas utilizadas, se podrían entender que se refieren a estos dos medios .
En ese sentido, el 11 de junio el secretario de comunicación Fernando Alvarado aseguró que detrás de las protestas hay intentos conspiradores con fines desestabilizadores. En declaraciones para el medio incautado TC Televisión se refirió “a los herederos de la partidocracia, a los herederos de la banca corrupta, a los herederos de la perimetral en Guayaquil, a los herederos de la terminal terrestre, a los herederos de esos medios de comunicación que se han declarado abiertamente opositores al gobierno, como Ecuavisa, como Teleamazonas, que apoyan a estos grupos subversivos que quieren romper la democracia confundiendo a la ciudadanía”.
Media reject government officials’ accusation of alleged destabilizing conspiracy
On 11 June 2015, Ecuavisa and Teleamazonas TV stations rejected government officials’ insinuations that they are part of an alleged conspiracy within the context of the recent public protests convened against government policies.
Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros said in Ecuavisa’s Televistazo news program that «Mr José Serrano, Government Minister, and Mr Fernando Alvarado, Communications Secretary, stated yesterday, the former via Twitter and the latter through one of the seized stations, that Ecuavisa has been involved with the demonstrators who are protesting against the Government because of the tax increases (…) Given this accusation, we must state quite clearly that Ecuavisa does not assume these attitudes under any circumstances. We do not incite protesters, nor have we ever incited (anyone)». Regarding the protests, he said: «We have not issued any opinions, but we have informed as is our responsibility and our duty. The people who are on the streets criticize or defend the government and that’s what viewers have seen».
Meanwhile, Teleamazonas issued a statement via Twitter rejecting the insinuations made by government spokespersons with the objective of involving the station in a destabilizing plan. The TV station pointed out that it «defends the right of citizens and social groups to express their opinions of the measures taken by the government and will continue to defend democracy and the rule of law».
This occurred after the Minister of the Interior José Serrano published in his personal Twitter account @ppsesa alleged «evidence that the only thing that interests them is to remove the president from power», attaching a screenshot of an email disseminated by a user identified as @DavisStars9 with the following message: «Paez, Lasso, Carrion, Orbe and others this is how your «own people» betray you, conspirators, supporters of a coup, explain this». The Minister retweeted the email, which supposedly contained coded guidelines to be followed during the citizens demonstrations organized to protest against the government. The abbreviations used could be understood as referring to these two media outlets.
On 11 June Communications Secretary Fernando Alvarado asserted that there are conspiracy attempts with destabilizing purposes behind the protests. Speaking to the seized TV station TC Televisión he refrred to «the heirs of the partocracy, the heirs of the corrupt banking system, the heirs of La Perimetral in Guayaquil, the heirs of the bus terminal, the heirs of those media that have openly declared their opposition to the government, such as Ecuavisa, Teleamazonas, which support these subversive groups who want to shatter democracy confusing the public».
