El jueves 13 de noviembre del 2014, la Policía Nacional desalojó a un grupo de padres del Colegio Mejía de Quito que se encontraban en huelga de hambre por la suspensión de sus hijos a propósito de su participación en las protestas del pasado 18 de septiembre. El hecho ocurrió en horas de la madrugada con la llegada de alrededor de 60 agentes. En declaraciones a diario La Hora, Hernán Beltrán, padre de familia, expresó que «la Policía, con órdenes de la gente del Ministerio del Interior y del Ministerio de Educación, llegaron a obligarnos a levantar la huelga de hambre».
Beltrán expresó además que un coronel les habría dado cinco minutos para abandonar el lugar, de lo contrario puesto recurrirían a la fuerza. A juicio de Beltrán lo sucedido es un abuso. «¿Por qué no vinieron en horas del día? Tuvieron todo el día de ayer y esperaron hasta la madrugada para sacarnos. Esto fue para no tener evidencias y ocultar el maltrato», dijo.
Los padres de los estudiantes habían iniciado la huelga de hambre para exigir la reinserción de sus hijos al plantel luego de que la Corte de Justicia aceptara su apelación y les otorgara la libertad el pasado 7 de noviembre .
El pasado 17 y 18 de septiembre sindicatos obreros y diversas organizaciones sociales y estudiantes se manifestaron en contra de algunas políticas del gobierno en donde ocurrieron varios incidentes. El 18 de septiembre, aproximadamente 126 jóvenes fueron inicialmente detenidos en las cercanías del colegio Mejía, en Quito, mientras que otros 38 fueron aprehendidos al día siguiente en protestas que continuaron en el centro y sur de la capital. En Ibarra, ciudad ubicada al norte del país, también se detuvo a ocho jóvenes por las protestas, pero recobraron su libertad al día siguiente.
Parents of students punished for protesting were evicted
On Thursday November 13, 2014 , the National Police evicted a group of parents of Mejía School of Quito who were on hunger strike for the suspension of their children after their participation in the protests last September 18th . The incident occurred in the early morning with the arrival of about 60 agents. Speaking to newspaper La Hora, Hernán Beltran, parent , said that » the police, with orders to the people of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education , came to force us to raise the hunger strike» .
Beltran also said a colonel would have given five minutes to leave, because otherwise resort to force. According to Beltrán what happened is an abuse. » Why not come to the hour ? They had all day yesterday and waited until morning to get us out . This was to avoid abuse and hide evidence ,» he said .
Parents of students had started the hunger strike to demand the reintegration of their children on campus after the Court accepted his appeal and grant them freedom last November 7th .
On 17 and 18 September labor unions and various social organizations and students protested against some government policies, and several incidents occurred. On September 18th , about 126 youths were initially detained near school Mejía, in Quito , while another 38 were arrested the next day in protests continued in the center and south of the capital. In Ibarra, a city located north of the country, eight young people were also arrested by the protests , but regained his freedom the next day.
