El 20 de marzo de 2012, un periodista del diario del Estado, El Telégrafo, fue impedido de acceder a una rueda de prensa organizada por dirigentes indígenas, en Quito, a propósito de la marcha convocada por este sector, en rechazo a las políticas de gobierno .
De acuerdo a una publicación de ese medio, el reportero acudió a cubrir la rueda de prensa en la sede del Consejo de Pueblos y Organizaciones Indígenas Evangélicas del Ecuador (FEINE) y, en la puerta principal, dos personas de seguridad que inspeccionaban a los periodistas impidieron su ingreso.
Según el rotativo, tras identificar al periodista y negársele el acceso, persiguieron al vehículo de ese diario hasta comprobar que se alejara de la sede de la organización evangélica, para evitar supuestos infiltrados.
State newspaper journalist prevented from covering opposition groups’ press conference
On 20 March 2012, a journalist of the State owned newspaper El Telégrafo, was prevented from having access to a press conference organized by indigenous leaders, in Quito, concerning the march organized by this sector in rejection of government policies.
According to an article published by the newspaper, the reporter went to cover the press conference at the headquarters of the Council of Evangelical Indigenous Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador (FEINE), but was prevented from entering by two security guards who were inspecting the journalists at the main door.
The article states that after the journalist was identified and access denied to him, the guards followed the newspaper’s van until they were sure it had left the vicinity of the evangelical organization’s headquarters to avoid the presence of alleged infiltrators.
