El 17 de enero de 2011, Ana María Cañizares, reportera de la estación televisiva Teleamazonas denunció en su cuenta de Twitter que, en la entrega de las preguntas para consulta popular por parte del presidente Rafael Correa ante la Corte Constitucional, varios camarógrafos y fotógrafos se quedaron fuera de la cobertura y ningún periodista pudo ingresar, salvo la del canal del Estado.
Cañizares confirmó a Fundamedios que, con anterioridad, les notificaron que solo se permitiría el ingreso de camarógrafos y fotógrafos antes de las 16:00 . Sin embargo, la disposición fue incumplida puesto que, según la reportera, algunos camarógrafos y fotógrafos, que llegaron unos cinco o diez minutos antes de la hora, también se quedaron fuera junto a los demás reporteros.
Pese a la disposición de que no se permitiría el ingreso a ningún reportero, Cañizares publicó en su Twitter que «el canal del Estado estuvo con toda la parafernalia para la cobertura, incluso a su reportero si se le permitió entrar, pero a los demás no».
Journalist denounces private media prevented from covering event
On 17 January 2011, Teleamazonas TV station reporter Ana María Cañizares denounced via her Twitter account that during President Rafael Correa’s delivery of the questions for the referendum to the Constitutional Tribunal, several camera operators and photographers were not able to cover the event and only the State TV station’s reporters were allowed in.
Cañizares confirmed to Fundamedios that the media had been informed beforehand that camera operators and photographers would only be allowed in before 16:00. However, this order was not complied with because, according to the reporter, some camera operators and photographers were not allowed in even though they arrived 5 or ten minutes before the hour and had to stay outside with the reporters.
Even though orders had been given not to allow in any reporters, Cañizares published in her Twitter account that «the State’s TV station was there with all its paraphernalia to cover the event. Even its reporter was allowed in, while other reporters were not».
