El 28 de noviembre de 2012, Juan Alcívar, corresponsal del diario «La Hora» y periodista de la emisora radial El Nuevo Sol, fue agredido física y verbalmente por parte de la Comisaria Municipal y otros funcionarios de esa entidad, en La Concordia, localidad ubicada a 318 kilómetros de Quito.
Alcívar denunció haber sido agredido por la comisaria municipal Gabriela Granja, de manera verbal y física. «Me insultó, me acusó de ser mentiroso y de ofender al Alcalde. También intentó golpear mi cámara y luego me siguió junto con un funcionario municipal, quien me lazó gas».
El pasado 26 de noviembre de 2010, Alcívar fue agredido físicamente, insultado y amenazado de muerte, presuntamente por Ronald Lara Heras primo del Alcalde, mientras que el 30 de septiembre de ese año el comunicador también fue agredido físicamente por Miguel Ángel Moreta, procurador síndico del Municipio de La Concordia, y por su acompañante Consuelo Landeta, mientras realizaba una cobertura.
En septiembre de 2012, el comunicador fue acusado por «agresión terrorista a funcionarios públicos», en una denuncia presentada por Ocampo, y otra por la misma causa basada en declaraciones de dos empleados municipales, razón por la cual el Juez Cuarto de Garantías Penales de Quinindé, Kléber Samaniego, dispuso orden de prisión preventiva, en ese mismo año, que después de casi un mes fue sustituida por una medida cautelar de presentarse cada 15 días a firmar ante el juzgado.
Al momento, el periodista ya no tiene que ir a firmar ante un juzgado, al haber transcurrido más de un año desde que se le puso esta medida, pero está a la espera de que se fije una fecha para la audiencia de juzgamiento ante el tribunal penal de Esmeraldas.
Journalist sued by mayor denounces new agression
On 28 November 2012, Juan Alcívar, correspondent for the newspaper «La Hora» and reporter for radio station El Nuevo Sol, was physically and verbally attacked by the Municipal Police Commissioner and other officials of that entity, in La Concordia, a town located 318 kilometers from Quito.

On 26 November 2010, Alcívar was physically attacked, insulted and threatened to death, allegedly by Ronald Lara Heras, the mayor’s cousin. On 30 September that year the communicator was also physically attacked by Miguel ÁngelMoreta, representing prosecutor of the Municipality of La Concordia, and his companion Consuelo Landeta, while on coverage.
In September 2012, the journalist was accused of «terrorist aggression against public officials» in a complaint filed by Ocampo, and another for the same charge based on the statements of two municipal employees, which is why the Fourth Judge of Criminal Guarantees of Quinindé, KléberSamaniego, ordered him to be put on remand that same year. This was substituted, nearly a month later, by a precautionary measure ordering the journalist to appear before the court every 15 days.
The journalist does not have to appear before the court any more, since it has been more than a year since this measure was established, but he is waiting for a date to be set for the hearing before the Esmeraldas criminal court.
