El martes 23 de octubre de 2012, Nathaly Toledo periodista y presentadora de noticias de la estación televisiva Teleamazonas, denunció a través de su cuenta de Twitter que fue amenazada de muerte luego de haber presentado un reportaje sobre la tenencia de drogas y armas en un colegio de la ciudad costera de Guayaquil y los vínculos con las pandillas.
A través de su cuenta @nathalytoledo, lacomunicadora expresó «Después del reportaje sobre drogas y armas fui amenazada de muerte. Lo hago público, xq NO me intimido! Mi labor es informar».
Toledo dijo a FUNDAMEDIOS que todo ocurrió minutos después de la difusión del reportaje en el noticiero de Teleamazonas, en donde se reveló los vínculos entre de la existencia de drogas y armas, con las pandillas en esa ciudad .
«Recibí algunas llamadas a mi celular de un número desconocido y finalmente decidí contestar por la insistencia. Cuando contesté, se escuchaba el noticiero nuestro de fondo y una voz de una persona entre 30 a 45 años muy frío y tranquilo que me insultó de todas las maneras posibles y finalmente me dijo que me había metido en donde no tenía que meterme y que por eso voy a pagar y que me va a matar. Entonces colgué y me llamó una segunda vez y me dijo que ya tenía identificado dónde vivía», apuntó la periodista.
Al momento Toledo ya presentó la denuncia respectiva ante la Fiscalía y cuenta con protección.
Journalist is threatened after revealing investigation about gangs
On Tuesday 23 October 2012, Nathaly Toledo, a journalist and newscaster for TV station Teleamazonas, denounced through her Twitter account that she was threatened to death after presenting a report about drugs and weapons found in a school in the coastal city of Guayaquil and their links to gangs.
Through the account @nathalytoledo the communicator expressed «After the report about drugs and weapons I was threatened to death.I am making this public because I WON’T be intimidated!Informing is my job”.
Toledo told FUNDAMEDIOS that everything happened the few minutes after the report was broadcasted by the Teleamazonas news program, in which she revealed the links between the existence of drugs and weapons and the city’s gangs.
“I received a few calls from an unknown number and because they insisted so much I eventually decided to answer my cellphone.When I did I could hear our news program in the background and then a person between 30 and 45 years old insulted me very calmly and coldly in every possible way and finally told me that I had overstepped and that I should pay for that, so that he would kill me.I ended the call but he phoned again and told me that he knows where I live», declared the journalist.
Toledo has filed a formal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office and has been granted protection.
