El 6 de mayo de 2014, Marlon Puertas, articulista y editor general del diario digital La República fue amenazado en Twitter a través de un usuario identificado con la cuenta @Lapazecua1, quien creó el hashtag #UnTiroAMarlon y posteriormente lo envió al periodista de manera pública. La amenaza la dio a conocer el articulista a través de la misma red social en donde escribió “Por ahí hay un tipo encamando en Twitter que me den un tiro. ¿Cómo será de tomarlo?”
En diálogo con Fundamedios, Puertas aseguró que desconoce de dónde pueda venir esta amenaza ni sus razones, pues el mensaje era corto y no hacía referencia a un tema específico. Sin embargo, cree que es una acción intimidante y una reacción frente a sus opiniones y comentarios que escribe en la red social y en medios digitales y tradicionales, como diario Hoy, en donde mantiene una columna de opinión crítica a las acciones del poder. “Me preocupa porque ninguna discusión por más polémica que sea debe llevar a este tipo de amenazas”, dijo el periodista a la vez que rechazó categóricamente este tipo de intimidaciones.
Tras la amenaza, el Ministerio del Interior envió un mensaje a Puertas para establecer contacto y preguntarle detalles de la misma a través de la red social.
Varios usuarios de Twitter expresaron su solidaridad ante el hecho. Sin embargo, el hashtag creado sí tuvo repercusión. Por ejemplo, el usuario Mauricio Cuzco @maito2130, escribió un mensaje insultante referente que no valdría la pena gastar una bala en alguien que, a criterio del usuario, vale muy poco .
Al momento, el usuario @Lapazecua1 está suspendido, pero según las capturas de pantalla que publicó el periodista, en su página tenía como fondo el logo de la nueva campaña que promociona el gobierno de Ecuador para promover el turismo.
El pasado 15 de febrero, una cuenta similar @lapazecua publicó un mensaje amenazante contra el cineasta y conocido tuitero Carlos Andrés Vera, junto a una fotografía de su hijo menor de edad. Este usuario permanece activo y son constantes sus ataques contra periodistas críticos al gobierno actual.

May 6, 2014, Marlon Puertas, columnist and managing editor from the online newspaper The Republic was threatened on Twitter by a user identified with the account @ Lapazecua1, who created the hashtag #UnTiroAMarlon and later sent him to the journalist publicly. The threat was announced by Mr. Puertas through the same social network and he wrote «Over there there’s a guy on Twitter wanting to give me a shot. How am I supposed to take it?»
Speaking to Fundamedios, Mr. Puertas said he is unaware from where this threat is coming from neither known the reasons of the threat, because the message was short and did not refer to any specific topic. However, he believes it is an intimidating action and a reaction of his opinions and comments written on his social network and digital and traditional media, such as newspaper Hoy, where He maintains a critical opinion column reviewing the government actions. «I am worry because any controversial discussion should have as a result this kind of threats,» the journalist said He categorically rejected this kind of intimidation.
After the threat, the Ministry of Interior sent a message to Mr. Puertas asking him to contact them and to give details about the threat that happened through the social network.
Several Twitter users expressed their solidarity to the fact. However, the hashtag created did have an impact. For example, userCuzco Mauricio @maito2130 wrote an insulting message about that is not worth it spending a bullet in someone who to the user@ maito2130 thinks, is worth very little.
At the time, the user @Lapazecua1 is suspended, but according to screenshots journalist who ever published on his account page had as a page background the logo of the new government campaign to promote tourism on Ecuador.
On February 15, a similar account @lapazecua posted a threatening messagealong with a photograph of his minor child against a recognized filmmaker and twitterer activist Carlos Andrés Vera. This user is still active and are constant his attacks against critical journalists of the current government.
