El miércoles 28 de noviembre de 2012, el periodista Andrés Carrión fue notificado con el cierre de su programa «Regresando con Andrés Carrión», en radio Armónica de Quito, tras haber entrevistado a Santiago Villa, director del censurado documental «Rafael Correa: retrato de un Padre de la Patria». Este hecho habría incomodado al dueño de la emisora Jorge Yunda, actual candidato a asambleísta por la lista de gobierno Alianza País.
En entrevista con Fundamedios, Carrión aseguró que desde hace 20 meses coproducía un espacio noticioso de gran aceptación en la tarde. Sin embargo, el 28 de noviembre, el gerente de la emisora, Nicolás Vega le informó que su espacio no podía seguir.
«El lunes 24 entrevistamos al señor Santiago Villa, el documentalista. Eso mereció que el miércoles de la semana anterior el gerente de la emisora me llamara, me dijera que no podíamos seguir y que el programa tenía que concluir, que era mejor salir sin mayores tensiones ni dificultades», asegura el periodista.
La notificación ocurrió a dos días de haber entrevistado a Santiago Villa, quien ha denunciado que su documental «Rafael Correa: Retrato de una Padre de la Patria» había sido censurado en Estados Unidos, tras presiones al canal América TeVe de Miami, EE.UU. mismas que fueron admitidas por el Secretario de Comunicación de la Presidencia, Fernando Alvarado, en una entrevista radial.
El periodista y documentalista ha sido cuestionado por altos funcionarios del Gobierno quienes lo han descalificado como»sicario de la verdad», «paramilitar» o lo acusan de estar financiado por el ex Presidente colombiano Álvaro Uribe Vélez.
El 30 de noviembre, Carrión anunció en su cuenta de Twitter «Hoy es mi último programa de Regresando con…Andrés Carrión en radio Armónica. Me despido de la audiencia. Mil gracias a todos, un abrazo» .
Para Andrés Carrión lo que ocurrió con su programa «es parte de toda esta relación tormentosa entre el gobierno y los medios. Como parte de eso se producen este tipo de presiones o censuras que impiden que podamos tener una tarea más fluida, plural y democrática», apuntó.
Por su parte, el gerente de Radio Armónica, Nicolás Vega aseguró a Fundamedios que lo que ocurrió fue que Carrión terminó su contrato de coproducción en este mes y que el periodista pidió vacaciones hasta enero, por lo que en el nuevo año negociarán si retoma o no el espacio.
Journalist is forced to leave his radio program after interviewing documentary maker criticized by the government
On Wednesday 28 November 2012, journalist Andrés Carrión was notified of the closure of his program «Regresando con Andrés Carrión», broadcasted by Radio Armónica of Quito, after he interviewed Santiago Villa, director of the censored documentary «Rafael Correa:portrait of a Father of the Nation».The interview annoyed the station’s owner, Jorge Yunda, current candidate to the Assembly for the government party Alianza País.
In an interview with Fundamedios, Carrion said that he had been co-producing the afternoon news program, which was very popular, for 20 months.However, on 28 November the station manager, Nicolás Vega, informed him that the program could not go on.
«On Monday 24 we interviewed Santiago Villa, the documentary director.This caused the station manager to call me last Wednesday to tell me that we could not continue and that the program had to end, that it was better to go without major tensions or difficulties”, stated the journalist.
The notice came two days after interviewing Santiago Villa, who has denounced that his documentary «Rafael Correa:Portrait of a Father of the Nation» was censored in the United States by pressure exerted on AméricaTeVe station of Miami. This was admitted by the Presidency’s Comunication Secretary, Fernando Alvarado, in a radio interview.
The journalist and documentary director has been questioned by senior government officials who have dismissed him as a «killer of the truth» and «paramilitary», as well as accusing him of being funded by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez.
On 30 November Carrión announced on his Twitter account «Today is my last program of Regresando con… Andrés Carrión in radio Armónica.I bid farewell to the audience.Many thanks to you all, a hug”. Andrés Carrión believes what happened to his program «is part of all this stormy relationship between the government and the media.This kind of pressure or censorship that prevents us from having a more fluid, plural and democratic task is part of it”, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the manager of Radio Armónica, Nicolás Vega, assured Fundamedios that Carrion’s co-production contract had ended this month and the journalist had asked for holidays until January, so that they will renegotiate whether he continues or not with the program in the new year.
