El miércoles 9 de diciembre de 2012, el periodista Ángel Arregui, de la estación televisiva Sacha TV de la ciudad La Joya de los Sachas -ubicada a 300 Km al noreste de Quito- fue secuestrado y golpeado por desconocidos quienes, tras abandonarlo en la carretera, le advirtieron que se trataba de un escarmiento por «meterse con el patrón».
Rafael Rodas, propietario de la estación televisiva narró a Fundamedios que el periodista, quien labora para el noticiero de este medio de comunicación, había salido del canal hacia su domicilio sobre las 22:00. Una hora más tarde, Rodas aseguró que recibió una llamada de un teniente del Cuerpo de Bomberos de la zona informándole que el periodista se encontraba golpeado, que le habían robado sus pertenencias y le habían abandonado cerca del kilómetro 26 de la vía Sacha-Lago Agrio, tras lo que fue trasladado hasta un centro de salud.
Rodas relató que al momento en que Ángel llegó a su domicilio, vio a un vehículo de color rojo sin placas que lo estaba esperando. De este se bajaron dos personas quienes le exigieron que suba al auto.
«Conversando con Ángel me comentó que los plagiadores le dijeron dos frases: ‘por andarte metiendo con mi patrón y no dejas trabajar tranquilo vas a ver lo que te pasa’ . ‘Esto es un escarmiento porque el patrón quiere hablar con él'», cuenta Rodas, quien dice desconocer la identidad del agresor y los motivos de ésta, pero no descarta que tenga relación con su trabajo periodístico, aunque no menciona ninguna investigación o tema en concreto que podría haber desatado dicha agresión.
Al momento se conoce que Arregui se recupera de los golpes, pues la agresión dejó al periodista imposibilitado de trabajar durante 21 días, según confirmó Rodas, quien se refirió al caso con hermetismo para no entorpecer las investigaciones de las autoridades.
Journalist kidnapped and beaten for «messing with the boss»
On Wednesday, 9 December 2012, journalist ÁngelArregui, of television station Sacha TV of the town of La Joya de los Sachas – located 300 km northeast of Quito – was kidnapped and beaten by unidentified persons who, after leaving him in the highway, warned him that it had been punishment for «messing with the boss.»
Rafael Rodas, the TV station’s owner, told Fundamedios that the journalist, who works for the outlet’s news program, left the station to go home at about 22:00. He said that an hour later he received a call from a Fire Department lieutenantwho informed him that the journalist had been beaten, that his belongings had been stolen and that he had been abandoned near kilometer 26 of the Sacha-LagoAgriohighway. He had been taken to a health center.
Rodas said that when Ángel arrived home he saw a red car with no license plates that seemed to be waiting for him.Two persons got out of the car and forced the journalist into it.
“Ángel told me that the kidnappers said two things:‘You will see what will happen to you for meddling with my boss and not letting him work in peace’.’This is a warning because the boss wants to talk to him’,» declared Rodas, who stated he is unaware of the identity of the perpetrators and the reasons for the aggression, but does not rule out that it is related to the journalist’s work. However, he did not mention any investigation or concrete subject that could have triggered the attack.
Arregui is recovering from the beating; the attack left him unable to work for 21 days, confirmed Rodas, who did not go into details about the case to avoid interference with the authorities’ investigations.
