Periodistas son impedidos de cubrir evento en Universidad pública

El lunes 12 de noviembre de 2012, un grupo de periodistas de la ciudad de Loja -ubicada en la frontera sur del Ecuador- fue impedido de realizar la cobertura de una firma de un convenio entre el Ministerio de Relaciones Laborales y el Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, pese a previamente ser convocados.

Alejandra Sánchez, fotoperiodista de Diario El Mercurio relató a Fundamedios que varios comunicadores sociales acudieron al evento por una invitación previa de la Universidad, pero, cuando intentaron ingresar a la sala donde se desarrollaba el acto, los guardias de seguridad impidieron su ingreso porque supuestamente era de carácter privado .

Tras este incidente, la fotoperiodista cuenta que Soledad Cárdenas, directora regional de esa cartera de Estado, salió para informar a los periodistas que no podían ingresar y que realizaran la cobertura desde afuera.

De acuerdo a una publicación de diario La Hora, tras un llamado de atención del Gobernador de la provincia, la funcionaria había asegurado que no fue ella quien negó el ingreso a los medios y que estos tuvieron libre acceso al evento. Sin embargo, luego dijo que para que los periodistas accedan a la información, primero deben coordinar una cita con el director nacional de comunicación de dicho ministerio.

Journalists are prevented from covering event in public university

On Monday 12 November 2012, a group of journalists from the city of Loja – located on the southern border of Ecuador – was prevented from covering the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Labor Relations and the Workers Union of the National University of Loja, despite being previously invited.

Alejandra Sánchez, El Mercurio newspaper photojournalist, told Fundamedios that several social communicators attended the event at the invitation of the University, but when they tried to enter the room where the ceremony was taking place, the security guards prevented their entry saying that it was private.

Following this incident, always according to the photojournalist, Soledad Cárdenas, regional director of the ministry, came out to inform the journalists that they could not enter but had to cover the event from outside.

According to an article published by the newspaper La Hora, after receiving a warning from the Governor of the province, the official had asserted that it had not been she who refused entry to the media and that they had had free access to the event.However, she later said that journalists who want to access to information must first make an appointment with the ministry’s national director of communications.
