El 23 de agosto de 2014, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano N°387, descalificó al periodista Emilio Palacio y al exasambleísta Cléver Jiménez, de quienes se refirió como «psicópatas enfermos» y preguntó a sus seguidores si no tendrían ganas de «caerle a patadas» a Palacio, acción que calificó como «microbicidio» por una de las publicaciones que hizo desde su boletín electrónico, referente a un supuesto viaje en jet privado que habría realizado el Jefe de Estado a Nueva York, en abril pasado. Horas después, en Twitter se puso precio a la cabeza del periodista.
Durante el segmento la Libertad de Expresión ya es de todos el Presidente -refiriéndose a la nota publicada por Palacio bajo el título «El avión fantasma de la dictadura ecuatoriana»- dijo: «Tengo psicópatas, enfermos por el odio que me siguen, es que no saben la última de Emilio Palacio y Cléver Jiménez denunciaron que yo he viajado secretamente el 16 de abril a Nueva York. Si el 16 de abril estuve en el despacho de Carondelet (…) Para que entiendan qué clase de tipos, de enfermos estamos enfrentando. O sea ya por favor la prensa que tenga un poco de decencia, si quieren poner de ejemplo a algún periodista búsquense a alguien más decente. Esta gente es cuestión de psiquiatra, son enfermos, es peligrosísimo, O sea tanto odio nos tienen que cualquier cosa se inventan».
Y refiriéndose a Palacio prosiguió: «Este psicópata, cómo no va a indignar, compañeros. Por demócrata, tolerante que uno sea, ¿qué harían ustedes en mi caso, si vieran a un tipo con tanta miseria humana como este?, ¿no lo patearían? (…) Cómo creen ustedes que si uno ve a un payaso psicópata como Emilio Palacio, que además me da por el ombligo, sería un microbicidio ¿Ustedes no tienen ganas de caerle patadas a un tipo así? No tiene ya dignidad, no tiene nada. Estos son los psicópatas que uno tiene que enfrentar día a día. (…) Una recomendación a sus abogados defensores, argumenten locura, porque ahí no son responsables penalmente; manden a un siquiatra a esta pobre gente, que están enfermos por su odio. Son verdaderos psicópatas los que uno tiene que enfrentar en este puesto, compañeros», concluyó.
Horas después del pronunciamiento presidencial, un usuario en Twitter, identificado con el nombre de Fausto Zapata @Grangaz007 ofreció 100 mil dólares por la cabeza de Palacio en esa red social, mientras que otro usuario, Bruno Díaz, dobló la oferta a 200 mil, ante lo cual, el ministro del interior ,José Serrano, ofreció investigar.
A estos hechos se suman las descalificaciones contra Palacio publicadas por el diario estatal El Telégrafo en su un editorial del 25 de agosto titulado «Las infamias de Emilio Palacio con acogida en la prensa local» en donde el medio aseguró que el periodista «miente todo el tiempo, injuria, inventa, difama…» y afirmó acerca de la existencia de una supuesta estructura «bien montada» de un grupo oculto en el cual estaría involucrado Palacio y los actores políticos del aparato mediático de la derecha local. Según El Telégrafo, «entre ellos algunos periodistas que ahora se sostienen con fondos oscuros en páginas web y plataformas de dudosa procedencia» .
Estos incidentes ocurren una semana después de conocerse la denuncia presentada ante la Fiscalía, contra Emilio Palacio, el exasambleísta Cléver Jiménez y el ciudadano Esteban Saltos, por presunta asociación ilícita. Dicha denuncia fue planteada por Fernando Larrea, abogado de la compañía estadounidense SkyJet Elite, de propiedad de sus sobrinos, los ecuatorianos Juan Pablo y Eduardo Larrea, por considerar que los tres se unieron para ensuciar la imagen del Gobierno, y que tuvo lugar luego de que la cadena Univisión revelara que tres aviones de esta compañía fueron retenidos para investigación por la agencia anti-narcóticos de Estados Unidos y que las operaciones de dicha compañía estaban siendo investigadas por el exasambleísta, quien sospechaba que una de las aeronaves prestaba secretamente servicios a altos funcionarios del gobierno ecuatoriano.
Twitter user puts a price to the head of a exiled journalist after the President said he wanted to kick him as a “microbe killing”
On August 23rd, 2014, the President Rafael Correa during his Saturday’s radio and TV broadcast No. 387, disqualified the journalist Emilio Palacio and the former assemblyman Cléver Jimenez, who he referred to as «psychopaths sick» and asked his followers if they would not have wanted to «kick him», action that he called as a «microbe killing» after a publication made by Palacio on his electronic newsletter where he posted a note about an alleged trip by private jet that would have made the Head of State to New York in April. During the segment “the Freedom of Expression now belongs to all” the President-referring to the article published by Palacio under the title «The Phantom airplane of the Ecuadorian dictatorship» – said: «I have these psychopathic, sick haters, do you know the latest thing from Emilio Palacio and Cléver Jiménez? They denounced that I have traveled secretly on April 16th to New York, but that day I was in my office in Carondelet (…) To understand what kind of types of sick people we are facing. So now I will have to ask to the press to have a bit of decency, if they want to have as an example to follow they should look for someone more decent, these people are concerned psychiatrist, are sick, it is very dangerous, they have so much hate inside that they make up anything. «
And referring to Palacio, he continued insulting. «This psychopath, how can we not be upset people, even if I’m am the democrat and tolerant that I am, but what would you do in my case, if you see a guy with so much human misery as this one? You would want to kick him, wouldn’t you? (…) Do you think that if you see a psychotic clown like Emilio Palacio, which has the same height as my belly bottom, so that would be a “microbe killing” Don`t you want to kick a guy like that? He has no dignity, he has nothing. These are the psychopaths that I have to face every day. (…) A recommendation to their defense lawyers to argue insanity, because there are not criminally responsible; send these poor people to a psychiatrist, they are sick of hate. There are truly psychopaths that I have to face as president, «he said.
Hours after the presidential statement, a user on Twitter, identified with the name of Fausto Zapata @ Grangaz007 offered $ 100,000 for the head of Palacio in the social network, while another user, Bruno Diaz doubled the offer to 200 000. Then, the interior minister, Jose Serrano, offered to investigate.
