Desde la mañana del 24 de enero de 2016, la página web de Fundamedios www.fundamedios.org sufrió ataques informáticos que derivaron en la salida del aire del sitio durante cerca de 24 horas y la intermitencia para su acceso tras su restablecimiento. Estos ataques a nuestro servidor han ocurrido coincidencialmente luego de la presentación del micrositio Censuracom.ec, un espacio que recoge de manera interactiva las principales agresiones a la libertad de expresión en 2015. Tras estos ataques Censuracom.ec aún permanece fuera del aire y los técnicos trabajan para que esté operativo en las próximas horas.
Los técnicos reportaron que el fin de semana se registró un número inusual de visitas a las páginas, lo que saturó al servidor. Sin embargo, aún se está investigando el tipo de ataque del que hemos sido objeto, pues desde hace dos semanas el portal de Fundamedios ya venía presentando problemas para su acceso por causas que aún no se han podido determinar.
Además www.fundamedios.org afronta, desde el 28 de diciembre de 2015, un reclamo presentado por la Secretaría de Comunicación (Secom), mediante acción de la empresa española Ares Rights, por supuesta violación de copyright.
Dicho reclamo, que aún se está evaluando por la vía legal, se dio por una fotografía que la Secom afirma que es de su propiedad. En realidad se trata de una captura de pantalla del video de un Enlace Ciudadano del Presidente Rafael Correa que fue publicada como parte de una composición fotográfica, con la imagen del periodista Emilio Palacio para ilustrar una alerta después de que el Primer Mandatario tildara de “psicópata” al comunicador el pasado 12 de diciembre.
Hace un año, el 9 de febrero de 2015, la página web de Fundamedios también fue víctima de un ataque a su portal, lo que provocó su salida del aire durante varias horas y ocurrió coincidencialmente después de que se publicó el informe anual sobre vulneraciones a la libertad de expresión en el Ecuador durante el 2014.
Fundamedios website experienced cyber-attacks after presenting the report about freedom of speech
Since the morning of January 24th 2016, Fundamedios website www.fundamedios.org experienced cyber-attacks which resulted in going off the air during about 24 hours and the intermittence when accessing it after the website was restored. These cyber-attacks to our server have coincidentally occurred after the presentation of the microsite Censuracom.ec, an interactive small cluster of pages that gather the main attacks on freedom of speech in 2015. After these cyber-attacks, Censuracom.ec is still off the air and the technicians work on restoring it in the next hours.
The technicians reported that during the weekend, the websites registered an unusual number of visits which saturated the server. However, it is still being investigated the kind of attack we were target as during the last two weeks, Fundamedios website has had problems when accessing it for causes that are still unknown.
Besides, www.fundamedios.org faces, since December 28th 2015, a complaint presented by the Communications Secretariat (Secom), through action of the spanish company Ares Rights, because of alleged infringement of copyright.
That complaint, which is still being assessed through legal resources, was presented because of a photo that Secom affirms is from its property. In fact, it is a screenshot of a video of the´Enlace Ciudadano´ (Weekly Broadcast) of President Rafael Correa that was published as part of a photo stitching with the image of the journalist Emilio Palacio, in order to illustrate a ‘warning’ after the President branded the journalist “psychopath” on December 12th.
A year ago, on February 9th 2015, Fundamedios website was also victim of a cyber-attack, which resulted in going off the air during several hours and it occurred coincidentally after the publication of the annual report of infringements on freedom of speech in Ecuador in 2014.
