El 7 de junio de 2014, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano N° 376 descalificó a los medios impresos ecuatorianos, en especial a diario El Comercio y aseguró, tras compararse con la revolución Alfarista, que “toda esa campaña de desinformación (de los medios) indujo a la gente a que maten a Alfaro y probablemente buscan lo mismo con la revolución ciudadana”.
Según el presidente Correa, la revolución liberal del general Eloy Alfaro tuvo que enfrentar varios obstáculos entre ellos, la prensa, como, según él, ocurre en la actualidad con su revolución. “Ustedes saben que se opusieron hasta al ferrocarril de Alfaro, la obra más importante de la historia hasta ese momento. Ahora es Yachay, pero en ese contexto era el ferrocarril más difícil del mundo. Una obra que iba a unir costa y sierra”.
En ese sentido, se mostraron varios editoriales publicados por diario El Comercio de la época, respecto a cuestionamientos en la construcción del ferrocarril y se afirmó que “13 días después de que publicaron este editorial en diario El Comercio, secuestraron, arrastraron, quemaron y asesinaron al general Eloy Alfaro Delgado. 119 años de la revolución liberal y estamos orgullosos de continuar con ese legado” .
Tras esto, el Jefe de Estado dijo lo siguiente: “¿Se dan cuenta? ¿Les suena conocido? Jóvenes queridos a aprender de la historia. Revisen lo que le decía la prensa corrupta y ellos decían a nombre de quién Eloy Alfaro manda en la nación. A nombre de quién esta prensa corrupta se dirige a la nación. A nombre del billete que tuvieron para comprarse una imprenta. Si ven la doble moral, la peluconería y cómo se creían el centro del mundo. Si era verdad que era tirano y todo lo que le decían el hombre de que destruyó la patria ¿de dónde sacaron eso? Toda esa campaña de desinformación indujo a la gente a que maten a Alfaro y probablemente buscan lo mismo con la revolución ciudadana ¡Prohibido olvidar! No solo recordemos 5 de junio- revolución liberal sino que aprendamos la historia», concluyó.
The President of the Republic accuses the press of wanting to murder «the revolution»

After, the Head of State said: «Do you realize? Does that sound familiar? Young people learn from the history. Review what the corrupt press said in the past to our nation. In the name of the money they had to buy printing presses. Do you see the double standard, who they think they were, because they had money, they believed they were center of the world?
If it was true that he was a dictator and all they said about him, the man who destroyed the motherland, where did they get that? All this disinformation campaign led people to kill Alfaro and probably want to do the same with the Revolución Ciudadana. ¡Forgetting is forbidden! Do not only remember June 5th -liberal revolution but let´s learn the history, «the president concluded.
