El sábado 05 de marzo de 2011, durante su enlace sabatino 211, el presidente ecuatoriano, Rafael Correa, volvió a referirse en términos estigmatizantes al trabajo realizado por los medios de comunicación privados acusándolos de «manipuladores, mediocres, corruptos, conspiradores y sicarios de tinta y golpistas».
Califico a artículos los calificó de «mentirosos», «para que vean como esta prensa es de manipuladora» expresó.
El primer mandatario citó un artículo de Diario El Comercio, de 11 de enero de 1912, que hacía referencia al Presidente General Eloy Alfaro Delgado, indicando que ese medio había sido unos de los asesinos del General Alfaro, expresó que la gente no era mala sino que estuvo influenciada por la prensa «corrupta» de la época… «siempre enemiga de Alfaro, como ahora es enemiga de la revolución ciudadana».
Añadió además que «la tan cacareada libertad de prensa, es la voluntad del dueño de la imprenta», para el mandatario los medios de comunicación «siempre han sido así sembradores del odio, cómplices de asesinato, y después se rasgan las vestiduras en nombre de la libertad de expresión».
«La prensa llamando al magnicidio, la prensa llamando al brutal asesinato, como solapan también hoy en día y lo hacen nos tratan de desinformar, de manipular a la fuerza pública» acotó.
Al referirse a una caricatura y artículo de Diario Hoy sobre que «Correa está harto de la marina», los acuso de «golpistas» .
El jefe de estado también culpo a los medios de comunicación de haber estado detrás de lo sucedido el 30 de septiembre, día de la sublevación policial, «no fueron solo los que dispararon sino que fueron estos sicarios de tinta que día a día conspiraran contra la revolución ciudadana» culminó su intervención agregando que por este tipo de hechos van a preguntar a los ciudadanos si quieren que se regule a la «prensa corrupta».
President increases aggresiveness of his stigmatizing speech against the private press
On Saturday 5 March 2011, during his 211 «Enlace Sabatino» program, Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa once again referred in stigmatizing terms to the work done by the private media accusing them of being «manipulative, mediocre, corrupt, conspiratorial, ink hit-men and insurgent».
To begin with, Correa showed his disagreement with the decision made by the National Electoral Council (CNE), which forbids the chief of state from campaigning during his Saturday programs. Correa stated that the CNE «has surrendered to the pressure exerted by the corrupt press, the mediocre, because they fear what the president may say».
«Why so much fear when people hardly watch the program?» asked President Correa to the press. «They want to suppress the programs at all costs… this is one more indication, fellow countrymen, of how they manipulate us». He then ironically criticized the articles published by the newspapers El Comercio, La Hora and Vanguardia magazine about the Saturday program’s low rating, calling them «deceitful».
«This is how manipulative this press is», he expressed.
The president also quoted an article published by El Comercio on 11 January 1912 which mentioned President General Eloy Alfaro Delgado, stating that the newspaper had been one of General Alfaro’s assassins. He declared that the people were not bad, but had been influenced by the «corrupt» press of the time… «always Alfaro’s enemy, as it is today the enemy of the citizens’ revolution».
He also added that the «the so much vaunted press freedom is the printing press owner’s will». For the president, the media «have always sown hatred, they have been the accomplices of murder, and then they tear their clothes in the name of press freedom».
«The press invoking magnicide, the press invoking brutal assassination, it conceals (its purpose) also today, it attempts to mislead, to manipulate the public force», he expressed.
While referring to a cartoon and an article published by Diario Hoy about Correa being fed up with the Navy, he accused the newspaper of «insurgent (pro coup d’etat)».
The chief of state also blamed the media for what happened on 30 September, the day of the Police uprising, stating that «it wasn’t just those who fired, it was these ink hit-men who day after day conspired against the citizens’ revolution». He completed his intervention by adding that it is because of these facts that the citizens will be asked if they want the «corrupt press» to be regulated.
