El 20 de noviembre de 2010, el presidente Rafael Correa, en su Enlace Ciudadano Nº 197 acusó al periodista Freddy Paredes, de la estación televisiva Teleamazonas, de «transmitir un delito», cuando informaba en vivo, durante la sublevación policial el pasado 30 de septiembre.
El Presidente de la República comentó en esos términos un vídeo que ya había sido transmitido días antes por el canal estatal EcuadorTV, en donde se ve al periodista Paredes durante la transmisión en vivo de los hechos del 30 de septiembre, que el Gobierno señala como un intento de golpe de Estado y que motivó una censura de medios que se prolongó durante seis horas.
El audiovisual presentado en el enlace presidencial se complementa con imágenes en donde se ve al periodista hablando con los policías y una locución en off dónde califican a Paredes como: «Una persona que poco se fija en las consecuencias con tal de ser protagonista» . Luego de esto, el Presidente Rafael Correa acotó: «Si ven la irresponsabilidad del periodista que está transmitiendo un delito… llama y hace una apología del delito, porque la sublevación de la fuerza pública es un delito muy grave… Hay que ver que si es cierto, fíjense como esta gente metía leña al fuego».
Y posteriormente afirmó que «si viene un irresponsable como el señor Paredes, que en verdad está siendo interlocutor para coordinar acciones entre FFAA y Policía, imagínense lo que podría suceder… Sobre el derecho de un irresponsable, está el garantizar la seguridad y la democracia para el pueblo ecuatoriano», concluyó Correa.
President Correa accuses journalist of «broadcasting a crime» on 30 September
On 20 November 2010, President Rafael Correa, through the 197 edition of his program Enlace Ciudadano, accused Teleamazonas TV station journalist Freddy Paredes of «broadcasting a crime» when he was reporting live on the Police uprising on 30 September.
The president declared this was so while viewing a recording broadcasted before by State owned TV station EcuadorTV, in which Paredes can be seen reporting live on the events of30 September, which the government has said were an attempted coup d’état and caused the media to be censored for six hours.
The audiovisual presentation shown by the president is complemented by images in which the journalist can be seen talking to the policemen and an off-screen comment can be heard in which Paredes is presented as: «A person who pays no heed of consequences as long as he can be a protagonist». After this President Correa added: «You can see the irresponsibility of the journalist as he broadcasts a crime…he calls for and makes an apology of the crime, because the uprising of the public forces is a very serious crime… You must see that this is true, look how these people add fuel to the fire».
He concluded by stating that «if we have someone as irresponsible as Mr. Paredes, who is really working as a go between to coordinate actions between the Armed Forces and the Police, imagine what could happen… The duty of guaranteeing the safety of the Ecuadorian people and our democracy is more important than the rights of an irresponsible person».
