El 02 de febrero, el Presidente Rafael Correa, en un conversatorio con periodistas de distintos medios se refirió en duros términos a la estación televisiva Teleamazonas tildándola de corrupta, de «no buscar la verdad» y de «hacer daño al gobierno».
Durante el conversatorio, el Primer Mandatorio defendió las preguntas que pretende elevar a consulta popular y criticó a los grupos de poder y a lo que él llama «prensa corrupta» porque quieren boicotear su consulta.
Esta descalificación a la prensa causó que el reportero de Teleamazonas Freddy Paredes, pidiera al Presidente, en tono sosegado, que no «ponga a los periodistas en un mismo saco». «Nos llama a todos los periodistas prensa corrupta y yo no soy corrupto», dijo Paredes.
Rafael Correa insistió en que «gran parte de esa corrupción está en Teleamazonas» que según lo dicho por el Presidente «obedece, todavía a intereses particulares y que hace oposición reemplazando a la partidocracia» .
El Presidente añadió que «hay periodistas que descaradamente hacen política, no he dicho que todos los periodistas y la prensa sea corrupta pero que hay prensa corrupta, sobretodo en Ecuador y en América Latina, te lo doy firmado».
Acto seguido, Rafael Correa continuó descalificando a Teleamazonas y aseguró que este canal «es de los medios que más critica en este país, tiene unas posturas absolutamente deshonestas, absolutamente tendenciosas. No busca la verdad, busca hacer daño al gobierno», concluyó.

On 2 February 2011, President Rafael Correa referred in harsh terms to TV station Teleamazonas during a meeting with journalists of different media outlets, calling it corrupt and accusing it of «not seeking the truth» and of «damaging the government».
During the meeting, the chief of state defended the questions he intends to ask in a referendum and criticized power groups and what he calls the «corrupt press» because of their intention to boycott it.
Faced by this attempt to discredit the press, Teleamazonas reporter Freddy Paredes requested the president, in a quiet manner, that he should not «judge all journalists equally». «You call every journalist corrupt and I am not corrupt», he said.
Rafael Correa insisted in that «great part of that corruption can be found in Teleamazonas» which, according to the president, «still submits to particular interests and acts as the opposition, replacing the particracy».
The president added that «some journalists brazenly engage in politics, I haven’t said that every journalist and the press are corrupt, but that a corrupt press exists, especially in Ecuador and Latin America, I can guarantee that».
He then continued to discredit Teleamazonas and asserted that this TV station «is one of the most critical media outlets in this country, it has entirely dishonest, entirely tendentious views. It doesn’t seek the truth but aims to damage the government», he concluded.
