El 9 de agosto de 2014, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano N° 385 descalificó al caricaturista Xavier Bonilla “Bonil”; al periodista y presentador de noticias de Ecuavisa Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros, y a César Ricaurte, director ejecutivo de Fundamedios, a quienes acusó de “racista”, “politiquero” y de “doble moral”, respectivamente.
La caricatura de Bonil -publicada el 5 de agosto en diario El Universo- fue tildada de “racista” por el Presidente, por la crítica que el caricaturista hace al exfutbolista y actual asambleísta Agustín Delgado, tras la polémica que se armó por el discurso que dio el legislador en la Asamblea.
Al respecto, el Presidente dijo: “Lo que han hecho en pleno siglo XX, increíble, qué racismo, y por parte de este tipo Bonil, qué calaña de gente y después tratan de enmendar con excusas muy faltas de sinceridad. Son politiqueros y estos de los peores porque se atrincheran en supuestos dibujitos, como si por dibujitos no se pudiera ofender o mentir. Yo revisé la lectura del Tin Delgado, si así hubiera leído un mestizo o un blanco no hubiera pasado nada, porque es negro le pasa. Puro y simple racismo. Todos a rechazar a los racistas” En ese sentido, el Primer Mandatario también descalificó a diario El Universo y pidió a la gente rebelarse en contra de la “prensa corrupta”.
El Jefe de Estado también arremetió en contra del presentador de noticias Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros por haber cuestionado una campaña que inició la Secretaría de Comunicación, la cual ya fue suspendida por considerar que su contenido podía afectar derechos, al aludir a los periodistas.
Respecto a la campaña aseguró que es legítima y cuestionó que ahora el periodista invoque a la Ley de Comunicación para rechazar dicha campaña, cuando antes la criticaba. “… el momento en que empieza por particulares intereses o intereses políticos a criticar una ley o al gobierno ya tiene un rol político y va a tener una respuesta política. Reivindico nuestro derecho de darle respuesta política a los politiqueros que se disfrazan de periodistas. Ellos son los que están actuando mal. Tienen derecho a opinar y nosotros también pues. Pero ya es vanidad, acostumbrados a una cultura que existe entre los periodistas que ellos eran los dioses del Olimpo y todos debíamos bajar la cabeza y nadie podía reclamar porque vean la doble moral. Ahora si convocan la Ley de Comunicación diciendo que se afecta su honra que no veo por dónde se ha afectado cuando antes decían que esa ley era para afectar a los periodistas”
El Presidente también arremetió en contra de César Ricaurte, director ejecutivo de Fundamedios y, tras presentar unas declaraciones editadas, en las que Ricaurte dijo que “Si en una democracia no podemos llamar fascista, y asesino a un mandatario eso no es una democracia”, el Jefe de Estado lo tildó de “loco”. “Esa es la doble moral de esta gente, es su engreimiento. Se acostumbraron a hacer el mal y nadie los tocaba por terror al poder mediático (…) Pero fíjense hablar de que se necesitan cambios en lo nacional es atentar contra la honra de un periodista, pero la fundación de la cual este periodista fue dirigente, su representante César Ricaurte dice que para él democracia es poder decirle asesino y fascista al Presidente de la República. Están chiflados. Pero eso es lo que piensan la CIDH, todos estos noveleros y el problema es que como viven preocupados y viven de eso, el resto de gente, la gente buena nos quedamos cruzados de brazos y este lobby mediático avanza para imponer sus caprichos y creerse los dioses del Olimpo”.
Tras esto, el Presidente advirtió a Ricaurte con que si le dice asesino, le meterá un juicio y lo ganará «por tener la razón .»
Fundamedios rechaza que se intente estigmatizar a Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros por haber formado parte del Consejo Superior, el cual se trata de un grupo asesor externo a la Organización. Asimismo, aclaramos que las declaraciones dadas por César Ricaurte y, que fueron sacadas de contexto para presentarlas en el Enlace Ciudadano, no representan la posición de la Organización, sino una opinión personal de su director ejecutivo.bih
En otro tema, el presidente anunció de un nuevo segmento que se va a incluir en la sabatina en donde se harán públicos los mensajes de Twitter de personas que lo critiquen. que hablan en contra de la sabatina. “… me contaron que mientras yo hablo los sufridores publican tonteras en sus twitters entonces para reírnos juntos les vamos a publicar algunos ‘tuits’ y esto vamos a hacer cada sábado compañeros”, concluyó.
President disqualifies journalist, cartoonist, Fundamedios director
On August 9, 2014, President Rafael Correa during his Citizen broadcast No. 385 disqualified the cartoonist Xavier Bonilla «Bonil»; journalist and Ecuavisa’s news anchor Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros and César Ricaurte, Fundamedio’s Executive Director, whom the President accused all respectively of «racist», «politician» and «double standard».
Bonil’s caricature was published August 5th in the Daily newspaper El Universo was branded as «racist» by the President, because of the critics that the cartoonist makes about the former soccer player and current Assemblyman Agustin Delgado, after a commotion caused by a speech gave by the legislator in the Assembly.

The Head of State also railed against the news anchor Alfonso Espinosa de los Monteros for have questioned a campaign initiated by the Ministry of Communication, which was already suspended on the grounds that its contents could affect rights, alluding journalists.

The President also lashed out against César Ricaurte, Fundamedios’ executive director, after presenting edited statements in which Mr. Ricaurte said «If in a democracy we cannot call fascist and a murderer to a president that is not a democracy» they got used to do wrong and nobody touch them because they had the media power (…) the Head of State called him a «madman». «That’s the double standards of these people, it is their self-importance.
