ENGLISH VERSION

The president says that the Ecuadorian press must be “the most corrupt press in the world”

On Saturday April 12th2014, President  Mr. Rafael Correa disqualified a journalist and a cartoonist whom he called them “haters”, also called the same way to the Ecuadorian media press; who the president considers “the most corrupt press in the planet” during it´s “Enlace Ciudadano” TV and radio national broadcast N° 369 which was developed in the United Sates.

In this context, Mr. Correa attacked again against journalist and cartoonist Xavier Bonilla “Bonil” from “EL Universo” journal, which was qualified as “a hater cartoonist who made infamies with little drawings”.

This new mention was to clarify what the President pointed the last (sabatina) Saturday´s TV show and remember what Bonil shared in his personal Facebook account, when in 1995 Xavier Bonilla published an article entitled «former public officer collect $ 1,300 salary without working» – was a slander against him, the President said.

“What does the humors Bonil, Bonil the transparent, Bonil the objective; he published this outrage on his website. When I denounced this outrage last Saturday Bonil has to correct it (…) we are not condemned him, we are condemning the lies, the infamy, but this is too much for these people to understand it. In the name of decency and peace is worth it to clarify some things. Bonil is talking to us about decency, ¡what a contradiction! ” President Correa said.

After the mentioned the President pointed “we will send Mr. Xavier Bonilla known as “Bonil” a tweet and I hope a lot of netizens couldretweet it, lots of the social network followers.  The tweet says: Before publishing any news we must resort to the source, not to the hate. For decency sake there is the report´s link, the Comptroller report, gave me all the reason in this case, “Bonil” could read it and won’t participate in another infamy”.

In another case, journalist Martín Pallares was called “hater” and chosen for the segment “the weekly joke”. It is because opinions given by Pallares in an interview on the radio station(RadioDemocracia), where he questioned about the Ecuadorian President visit to the United States “Each crazy person goes with each atrocity.  To have an opinion is not lying. Talking nonsense and the country needs to improve their debate quality. We cannot keep holding nonsense day and night holding outright lies”.

The President also railed against media press, whom he said are his principal political opponents“they belong to the elites who are losing their power and will do everything possible to affect the government and the changes we are making”.

Among them, he mentioned (Expreso) journal, which was disqualified because an editorial which was referred to laws that oppress and violate rights. However, for the President, what this media does is defend its best interests, its business and powerful elites.

Finally, at the segment “the weekly double standard” the President criticized an article from (la Hora) journal, the article was about uncertainty and fear that journalists feel towards the new legislation. “Socurrently (La Hora) journal wants to give us a lecture of morality and good manners. I insist, for these people Pinochet is a humanist philanthropist and Victor Jara is the torturer. Let´s see what should be the (caretucada) “shameless Weekly section” for giving good manners and morality lessons.”

After the mentioned, a video was shown exposing cases of labor exploitation and newspaper’s censorship.  Later, the President said “The worst media press (La Hora) the most dishonest.Although (El Hoy) journal isracing hard to match it but not yet succeeded, at this journal is where have been more labor exploitation, but that´s the nerve of these people, all that they preached never had been practiced. It is supposed that I am who do not tolerate different opinions.  Go and see if they allow one of their journalists to publish something that they don’t like. Prior censorship do exists in the country, but the government side had ever censored anything that is why there is not even one journalist who could show that our government had censored something. (…) We have the most corrupt press. In general, Ecuadorian and Latin American press must be the worst professional in technical level and the most morally corrupt in the world that no one be fooled by that and everyone gives me the reason behind the scenes”… he concluded.
