El 12 de diciembre de 2015, durante el Enlace Ciudadano N° 454, el presidente Rafael Correa descalificó al periodista exiliado en Miami, Emilio Palacio, y lo tildó de “psicópata”, “miseria humana “y “odiador” por haber enviado un ‘tuit’ con un video en donde se ve al Presidente bailando en una cena que mantuvo con estudiantes y becarios ecuatorianos en Argentina.
Al respecto, el Presidente dijo lo siguiente: “…para que vean todo lo que hemos tenido que enfrentar todos estos años, la miseria humana. Son verdaderos psicópatas, que viven odiando”, Tras mostrar el mensaje que Palacio publicó en Twitter junto al video aseveró: “Este es un psicópata que fungía de periodista. Se autoexilió porque nadie lo persigue. Solito se fue por temor a su propia conciencia y era el jefe de opinión del periódico más grande del país y un verdadero psicópata. Imagínense en qué manos estamos, quién nos da la información”.
Luego de esto, el Primer Mandatario explicó un incidente ocurrido hace tres años, cuando se publicaron fotografas de su esposa en Miami y Palacio denunció que fue víctima de una agresión física por parte del cónsul general del Ecuador en esa ciudad y su cuerpo de seguridad por haber acudido al aeropuerto a constatar dicha visita. Al respecto dijo: “…Mi esposa pasaba y (Palacio) rompió la cerca de seguridad, armó un escándalo para tomarle foto y después publicaron en esos diarios de cubanos extremistas, diciendo que mi esposa había ido a hacer shopping a Miami. Esa es la clase de gente que debemos enfrentar, pero esto es mucho más grave. Es una miseria humana, un verdadero odiador, psicópata. (…) Pero miren el video que pasan con la leyenda: Era una cena con estudiantes, se les olvidó decir eso . Dijeron que el Presidente bailaba con una mujer que no era su esposa en Buenos Aires, mientras el país tiene tanto problema económico y para colmo ponen como título el video del presidente Correa que nadie se atreve a publicar.».
El Presidente envió en un ‘tuit’ el mismo video con el mensaje: “Compartiendo un momento de esperanza con los estudiantes becarios en Argentina”. Afirmó que el desafío de América Latina es luchar contra la prensa corrupta y mentirosa.
President repeatedly refers to journalist exiled in Miami as a psychopath
On December 12, 2015, during his No. 454 weekly broadcast, President Rafael Correa discredited journalist Emilio Palacio, exiled in Miami, calling him a «psychopath», «human wretch» and a «hater» for having sent a ‘tweet’ with a video where the president can be seen dancing at a dinner he had with Ecuadorian students and fellows in Argentina.
The president said: «… now you can see see all that we have faced these years, the human wretchedness. They are true psychopaths, who live in hatred». After displaying the message that Palacio tweeted with the video he said: «This is a psychopath who acted as a journalist. He went into self-exile because no one is persecuting him. He went because he feared his own conscience and he was the head of opinion of the country’s largest newspaper and a true psychopath. Imagine in whose hands we are, who provides us with information».
Then, the president told of an incident that happened three years before, when photographs of his wife when she was in Miami were published and Palacio reported that he was the victim of physical aggression by the Consul General of Ecuador in that city and his security guards when he went to the airport to confirm the visit. Correa said: «… My wife was going past and (Palacio) broke the security fence, made a scene to take photo of her and then published it in those newspapers of Cuban extremists, saying that my wife had gone to Miami to go shopping. That’s the kind of people we must face, but this is much more serious. He is a human wretch, a true hater, a psychopath. (…) Just look at the video they show: It was a dinner with students, they forgot to say that. They said the president danced with a woman who was not his wife in Buenos Aires, while the country has so many economic problems and on top of that they title it «The video of President Correa that nobody dares publish».
The president sent the same video in a ‘tweet’ with the message: «Sharing a moment of hope with scholarship students in Argentina». He stated that the challenge for Latin America is to fight the corrupt and deceitful press.
