El 14 de marzo de 2015, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano No 415 descalificó a diario La Hora y tras tildarlo de “pasquín” ordenó a su Secretaría de Comunicación (SECOM) que actúe y, «utilizando la Ley de Comunicación», obligue al rotativo a rectificar una información sobre una reunión que mantuvo el Presidente con familiares de desaparecidos.
El Primer Mandatario se refirió a la publicación de diario La Hora titulada: “Familiares de desaparecidos exigen a Correa agilidad” y aseguró que lo que se dice allí “no es cierto”. “Pregunten a los familiares de desaparecidos que participaron, la inmensa mayoría con una gratitud muy grande por todo lo que estábamos haciendo». -Señor presidente se no está acabando la paciencia- “fíjense la grosería”. -Eso dijo ayer José Rodríguez, uno de los representantes de los familiares de los desaparecidos que ayer se reunieron por más de seis horas con el presidente Rafael Correa en el palacio de gobierno- «Esto publica este pasquín La Hora» – Son promesas incumplidas, trámites que no avanzan insistió el delegado- “Pues resulta que el delegado ni siquiera estuvo en la reunión, no sabemos quién es este señor Rodríguez y esto es lo que publica este pasquín como diario La Hora”.
Acto seguido el Jefe de Estado aseguró que ya ordenó a la Secom para que, “utilizando la Ley de Comunicación obliguen a rectificar este pasquín, no vamos a permitir que se hagan politiquerías hasta con el dolor más grande, como es el de nuestros desaparecidos. Basta de esta prensa tan corrupta y falta de ética. Ni siquiera sabemos quién es este tipo y lo ponen como portavoz y encima más dicen al Presidente, ‘se nos está acabando la paciencia’, amenazando, son promesas incumplidas . Esto es mentira. Sí hubo críticas sobre todo fue al sector judicial y la inmensa mayoría de familiares de desaparecidos, pese a su dolor, reconociendo lo que está haciendo el Presidente, lo que está haciendo el Gobierno. Este señor no sabemos quién es, pero así es como se manipula, a rechazar todos esta mala prensa y a la politiquería”, concluyó el Primer Mandatario.
No obstante, lo desmentido por el Presidente Correa, otros familiares que estuvieron en la reunión como la señora Pilar Tobar de Carbo, hermana del desaparecido Camilo Tobar de 51 años, describió la reunión en estos términos:»Me mantengo con mi sentir, total desilusión, un sabor amargo, completa desazón y sin poder mirar hacia el horizonte con la esperanza de que algo cambie en este país.
President orders Secom to force newspaper to rectify
On 14 March 2015, President Rafael Correa condemned the newspaper La Hora during his 415th Enlace Ciudadano and after it calling it a «rag» ordered his Communication Secretariat (SECOM) to act and, «using the Communications Law» , force the newspaper to rectify information about a meeting held by the president with the relatives of missing persons.
The president referred to an article which La Hora published under the headline: «Relatives of missing persons demand celerity from Correa» and stated that what the article says «is not true.»«Ask the relatives of the disappeared who participated, the vast majority was very thankful for all we were doing». -Mr. President we are running out of patience – «how rude can you be». -This is what José Rodríguez said yesterday. He is one of the representatives of the relatives of missing persons who met yesterday for longer than six hours with President Rafael Correa in the government palace- «This is what this rag La Hora publishes»- They are broken promises, procedures that make no progress, insisted the delegate- «As it happens, the delegate was not even at the meeting, we do not know who this Mr. Rodriguez is and this is what this rag La Hora publishes».
Following this the Head of State asserted that he has already ordered Secom to «use the Communications Law to force this rag to rectify, we will not allow political posturing around that which causes the greatest sorrow, as is the case of our disappeared. Enough of this very corrupt and unethical press. We do not even know who this man is and they present him as a spokesperson and furthermore they tell the president, ‘we are running out of patience’, threatening, they are broken promises. This is a lie. It is true there were criticisms of the judicial sector mostly and the vast majority of relatives of the disappeared, despite their pain, recognized what the president is doing, what the government is doing. We do not know who this man is, but this is how manipulation works, we must all reject this bad press and political posturing», concluded the president.
Despite President Correa’s denials, other relatives who attended the meeting, Mrs. Pilar Tobar Carbo among them, sister of the late 51 year-old Camilo Tobar, described the meeting in these terms: «I remain totally disappointed, I have a bitter taste, there is total disquiet, and I am unable to look towards the horizon with the hope that something will change in this country».
