El 07 de septiembre de 2013, el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano No 338 volvió a descalificar al cantautor Jaime Guevara y pidió que se alejen de esa «gente dañada mala» que busca provocar para salir del anonimato.
«El señor Jaime Guevara es malcriado y mentiroso, que puede tener militancia de izquierda equivocada, miope, violenta y torpe. Que además de ser violento y agresivo, que más aún tiene una enfermedad irreversible: Cisticercosis, que provoca en él ataques epilépticos desde hace décadas, especialmente cuando tiene excesos de rabia e indignación contra quien no piense como él. Que estos ataques le llevan a tener la mirada perdida, incapacidad de vocalizar palabras, dificultad para expresarse y mantener el equilibrio, todo lo cual lo hace parecer como un borracho y bajo efecto de las drogas…»
Con esas palabras, el Primer Mandatario dio su «rectificación» por haberse referido a Guevara como un «borracho» y «que lleva toda una droguería encima», tras el incidente ocurrido el pasado 29 de agosto, cuando el Jefe de Estado retó «de hombre a hombre» al artista tras bajarse de la caravana presidencial por un gesto «de bayoneta en alto» que hizo Guevara, en rechazo a las represiones policiales a las protestas en contra de la explotación petrolera de una parte del Parque Nacional Yasuní.
Sobre el incidente, el presidente Correa aseguró que este «podría haber pasado absolutamente desapercibido si este sujeto no lo hubiera publicado en su Facebook, sacando pecho de esto porque eso es lo que buscan provocar, provocar para generar un incidente y salir del anonimato en el que lo ha hundido su mediocridad. Enseguida lo difundió la prensa corrupta, diciendo aquí hacemos escándalo y podemos hacerle daño al Presidente», apuntó.
El Jefe de Estado reiteró que el día del altercado Guevara -quien ha declarado ser abstemio toda su vida- olía a alcohol. «Es lo que todos creímos, porque este tipo hasta olía a alcohol, probablemente por su enfermedad neurológica tome medicina con alcohol ¡qué se yo meticol! (…)¿Cómo vamos a adivinar que tiene un problema neurológico?», preguntó, tras presentar el informe que dio el mayor Montenegro, jefe de la Seguridad presidencial, reafirmando lo que dijo el Presidente.
En ese sentido, el Primer Mandatario aseguró que el informe mencionado no es falso, sino que «tiene una imprecisión con una conclusión equivocada» . «No es con la maldad y malicia que le quieren poner algunos, que se ha inventado una mentira para perjudicar a un angelito que caminaba tranquilamente por la calle. Este señor sigue mintiendo en su Facebook además de insultar a los profesionales y es defensor de derechos humanos. No se dejen engañar porque puede haber defendido los derechos humanos, pero esas cosas se hacen por amor, no por ser un resentido social. Este tipo de gente se mueve por el odio y no por el amor. Aléjense de esa clase de gente que es dañada, mala», apuntó el Jefe de Estado.
Finalmente, sobre el gesto en cuestión, el Presidente afirmó que «Nos guste o no la mala seña es contravención y si insultan y todo eso es delito penal y estoy de acuerdo con eso porque hay que respetar a la gente».
President verbally attacks songritter with even more anger while rectifying
On September 7, 2013, President Rafael Correa insulted songwritter Jaime Guevara once again, during Weekly National Broadcast N° 338. Correa said, among other things, that citizens should “stay away from such wikedpeople, that provoke conflict to become famous”.
«Mr. Guevara is a brat an a liar, supports the wrong side of the leftist ideology which is wrong, short-sighted, violent and stupid. Not only is he violent and aggressive, he suffers from cysticercoids, which makes him have epileptic attacks, specially under situations of extreme anger against whoever disagrees with him. These attacks jeopardize his vision, his ability to speak and to express himself and to even keep balance, all these symptoms look like he is drunk and under the effect of drugs”.
This was the supposed rectification that the President offered after calling Guevara a drunken and a drug addict, after an incident ton August 29 in which Correa confronted Guevara in the street due to an obscene gesture that the songwriter did to the presidential caravan while it passed. Guevara indicated that the gesture was a way to protest against Correa´s decision to start oil exploitations in the area of Yasuni National Park.
Correa indicated that “the incident could have been meaningless if this guy would not have made it public in his Facebook account, bragging about it because he only wanted to provoke me, to cause a scene and become famous, which he never was due to his mediocrity. The corrupt press disseminated Guevara´s version, trying to make a huge scandal and harm the President.
Then Correa sustained that the day of the incident, Guevara smelled of alcohol (even though it is of public knowledge that he has never have a drink in his life). “It is what we all thought about, the guy even smelled of alcohol, probably his mental illness makes him take medicine that smells like alcohol…who knows, I´m not a doctor! (…)How am I supposed to know that he has a neurological problem?” He asked after presenting the report by Major Montenegro, Chief of the PresidentialEscort and Security Staff.
On this regard, the President reassured that the report is not false, but that the Major got the wrong impression of Guevara that lead to a wrong conclusion. “He didn´t say these things with a mean intention, like some people are saying, that the Major invented a lie to harm that “innocent guy that was walking down the street minding his own business. Guevara keeps lying on his Facebook account, and insults people, while saying he is a Human Rights Defendant. Do not be fooled, he may have defended human rights in the past, but that means nothing when it is a consequence of hate, not love. These resentful people are full of hate, you should stay away from these wicked people”.
Regarding the “middle finger” gesture of Guevara, Correa said: “Whether we like it or not, that gesture is a misdemeanor and when paired with insults it is a crime. I agree with this, because people deserve respect”.
