El periodista de Canal UNO, Xavier Bustamante Ruiz, fue víctima de actos de intimidación por parte de supuestos trabajadores de la Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador (CTE), tras la publicación de dos reportajes en los que se exponía videos de la actuación “inusual” de dos agentes. Los actos intimidatorios ocurrieron el 3 de junio y consistieron en la publicación, a través de Facebook, de las fotos, número de teléfono y la dirección de la casa del periodista en la ciudad costera de Guayaquil.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, el periodista comentó que al ser expuestos sus datos personales, se vulneró su integridad física y la de su familia. Las capturas de pantalla enviadas por el comunicador evidencian que desde las cuentas de usuarios identificados como “Pedro Pablo Che” y “Rudy Robinzon Alcívar Chávez” se publican los datos del periodista. En su denuncia, presentada en la Fiscalía de Delitos Flagrantes de Guayaquil, Bustamante pidió a las autoridades que se establezca la identidad de los supuestos agentes, así como que se lo incluya en el programa de protección de víctimas y testigos de la Fiscalía.
Las imágenes en los reportajes divulgados el pasado 2 y 3 de junio muestran el momento en que dos servidores de la CTE reciben algo más que documentos durante los operativos, lo cual según un miembro activo de la institución es parte de una red de corrupción que los obliga a pagar por pases y a entregar dinero a superiores por cada operativo que realizan. El director Ejecutivo de la CTE, Juan Andrade, y el excomandante de la institución, Luis Lalama, en la réplica a los reportajes desmintieron las aseveraciones del denunciante anónimo y anunciaron una investigación interna de los hechos.
Reporter is victim of harassment after disseminating reports denouncing alleged corruption
Canal UNO journalist Xavier Bustamante Ruiz was the victim of harassment by supposed workers of the Transit Commission of Ecuador (CTE) following the publication of two videos in which the «unusual» behavior of two agents was exposed. The intimidating actions occurred on 3 June and consisted in the publication, through Facebook, of photographs, phone number and address of the journalist’s home in the coastal city of Guayaquil.
Talking to Fundamedios, the journalist said that by exposing his personal information, his and his family’s physical integrity had been violated. The screenshots sent by the communicator show that his information was published in the accounts of users identified as «Pedro Pablo Che» and «Rudy Robinzon Alcívar Chávez». In his formal complaint, filed at the Prosecutor’s Office for Flagrant Cases of Guayaquil, Bustamante asked the authorities to establish the identity of the alleged agents, and requested being included in the Prosecution’s program for the protection of victims and witnesses.
The images in the reports disseminated on 2 and 3 June show the moment when two CTE agents receive more than just documents during operations, which according to an active member of the institution is part of a network of corruption that forces them to pay for passes and hand over money to their superiors for each operation they carry out. The CTE’s Executive Director, Juan Andrade, and the institution’s former commander, Luis Lalama, denied the assertions of the anonymous complainant and announced an internal investigation of the events in their reply to the reports.
