El 04 de febrero de 2016, seis activistas del grupo “Mujeres por el cambio” fueron agredidas físicamente por agentes de seguridad del presidente turco Recep Tayyip Erdogan durante una charla académica en su visita a Ecuador. Los agentes también intentaron agredir al equipo periodístico de la estación televisiva Ecuavisa compuesto por Willi Torres y Fernando Tixi, para que no registraran los hechos ocurridos en el interior y exteriores del auditorio del Instituto de Altos Estudios Nacionales (IAEN), en Quito, en donde un grupo de personas se congregaron para expresar su rechazo por la visita del Mandatario.
La represión ocurrió después de que las activistas profirieran expresiones como “fuera Erdogan, fuera” o “Erdogan asesino no eres bienvenido”, en el momento en que el Presidente turco se disponía a realizar su discurso en el interior del centro de estudios. En imágenes transmitidas por el noticiero de Ecuavisa, se vio como uno de los agentes arremetió en contra de una de las activistas por sus espaldas, tapándole la boca y arrastrándola para sacarla del lugar. Esta acción se repitió contra el resto de mujeres, quienes fueron tomadas por el cuello y empujadas. Se observó además cómo los guardias intentaban empujar y tapar el lente de la cámara para impedir su registro.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, Estefanía Altamirano del grupo de activistas agredidas narró que lo “la verdadera paliza” ocurrió en los exteriores del lugar, cuando ella y sus compañeras después de haber sido sacadas de los cabellos, recibieron golpes y patadas por los guardias turcos, mientras aún permanecían en el suelo. Estas agresiones causaron diversas contusiones y hematomas de los que se están recuperando. El resto de agredidas son Carla Calapuqui, Pilar Rassa, Cristina Cachaguay, Ana Cristina Vera y Anabel Guerrero.
Con relación a los hechos, el canciller Ricardo Patiño, en rueda de prensa, expresó su molestia por actuaciones directas de la seguridad de Turquía, pero lamentó que el presidente Erdogan haya sido objeto de gritos e insultos cuando estaba ofreciendo una conferencia. “Nos parece de lo más irresponsable e irrespetuoso que personas que asistieron se hayan levantado a insultarlo y al salir igual”, dijo en declaraciones recogidas por el diario digital LaRepública.ec.
Las activistas señalaron que no presentarán denuncias ante la Justicia por las agresiones recibidas.
Six activists and a team of reporters were assaulted by security officials of the Turkey’s President
On February 4th, 2016 six activists of the group “Mujeres por el cambio” (Women for change) were assaulted by security officials of the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a lecture in his visit to Ecuador. The security officials also tried to assault the team of reporters of the media outlet Ecuavisa formed by Willi Torres and Fernando Tixi for not letting them record the facts occurred inside and outside the auditorium of Instituto de Altos Estudios Nacionales (IAEN) in Quito, where a group of people congregated in order to express their dissent towards the visit of the president.
The repression occurred once the activists uttered phrases such as “Get out President Get out” or “Erdogan murderer, you are not welcome” at the moment when the president was willing to start his speech in the institute. In the images broadcasted by the news bulletin of Ecuavisa, it could be seen how one of the security officials lashed out against one of the activists from behind and covered her mouth dragging her out of the auditorium. This act was repeated against the other women, who were grabbed by the neck and shoved. Besides, it was observed that the security officials tried to push and cover the camera lens in order to impede the recording.
In a conversation with Fundamedios, Estefanía Altamirano from the group of the affected activists told that “the true beating” occurred outside when she and her partners, after of being pulled by their hairs, were punched and kicked by the Turkish officials while they were still in the ground. These assaults caused many bruises and hematomas from which they are still getting better. The other affected activists are Carla Calapuqui, Pilar Rassa, Cristina Cachaguay, Ana Cristina Vera and Anabel Guerrero.
Regarding the facts, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ricardo Patiño, during a press conference, expressed his annoyance on the direct intervention of the security officials of Turkey, but he felt sorry for the insults and shouts that President Erdogan was target of when he was giving his speech. “We think that the act of attending to the event and standing up to insult the president was very irresponsible and disrespectful”, said in the statements gathered by the online newspaper LaRepública.ec.
The activists pointed out that they will not lodge a complaint before the Court of Justice for the attacks they received.
