El 24, 25 y 26 de marzo tres cadenas interrumpieron los espacios informativos de la estación televisiva Ecuavisa para descalificar a su entrevistador Alfredo Pinoargote; al tratamiento informativo que dio ese canal respecto a la prescripción de la pena del exasambleísta Cléver Jiménez y Fernando Villavicencio, y a los manifestantes que marcharon en contra de las políticas del gobierno el pasado 19 de marzo, respectivamente. En total suman 14 minutos que la Secretaría de Comunicación utilizó para difundir sus cadenas en ese medio de comunicación.
La primera cadena difundida el 24 de marzo y de tres minutos de duración interrumpió el espacio de entrevistas Contacto Directo, dirigido por Alfredo Pinoargote para decir que este mintió al comentar acerca del caso Duzac. En ese sentido la cadena dijo lo siguiente: “ La mañana de ayer en este espacio de entrevistas para abordar el tema del caso Duzac, el entrevistador principal de Ecuavisa Alfredo Pinoargote aseguró que los denunciantes del caso están fuera de toda posibilidad de seguir denunciando porque extrañamente ya no son políticos activos dentro del Parlamento y dio varios nombres…” tras exponer las razones de por qué los asambleístas habían salido , el espacio de gobierno concluyó con la siguiente frase: “. Así que señor Pinoargote en honor a la verdad, los televidentes de Contacto Directo de Ecuavisa merecen respeto”.
La segunda cadena, difundida el 25 de marzo y de seis minutos de duración interrumpió el noticiero estelar de la noche y cuestionó los reportes de Ecuavisa sobre el caso de Jiménez y Villavicencio y aseguró que por respeto a los televidentes hay que hablar con la verdad y dentro de su real contexto. “En estos días los televidentes del noticiero de Ecuavisa han podido escuchar varias afirmaciones de sus reporteros que no se acercan a la verdad en el caso Jiménez-Villavicencio. Así, durante las emisiones del noticiero se aseguró que ellos fueron enjuiciados tan solo por pedir que se investiguen los hechos del 30 de septiembre (…) Pues esto no es verdad, los prófugos Jiménez y Villavicencio, junto a Carlos Figueroa no pidieron que se investigue, ellos acusaron directamente al Presidente de la República de delitos de lesa humanidad”,dijo la voz en off del espacio de gobierno.
Tras esto, y luego de mostrar imágenes del 30 de septiembre de 2010, cuando ocurrió la revuelta policial, se insistió en que hubo un intento de golpe de Estado y se aseguró que Jiménez, Villavicencio y Figueroa mintieron e injuriaron y que por ello fueron condenados a prisión. Respecto a Villavicencio, la cadena le dedicó varios minutos para descalificarlo y afirmar que no es la primera vez que este burla la justicia, pues antes ya fue sentenciado a tres meses por injurias y tampoco fue a prisión. También se cuestionó el título de periodista que ostenta y que, según la cadena, fue obtenido en una universidad que ya cerró por fraude académico, entre otras cosas .
Finalmente, la última cadena difundida el 26 de marzo de cuatro minutos y medio de duración también interrumpió el noticiero estelar de la noche de ese canal para afirmar que hubo actos violentos en las marchas del pasado 19 de marzo y que se agredieron a policías. “Algunos medios de comunicación y muchos actores políticos dicen que las marchas del 19 de marzo se dieron en medio de una jornada festiva, cívica y ciudadana, pero ¿fue en realidad una jornada cívica y festiva?”. “En nuestro país, el derecho a la protesta está plenamente garantizado en la Constitución y por ello es que los ciudadanos tienen absoluta libertad para expresar sus ideas, dentro de las normas legales. Sin embargo lo que ocurrió en las llamadas marchas de marzo, no puede considerarse como una manifestación pacífica en defensa de los derechos humanos y libertades (…) Los hechos de violencia no pueden constituirse como hechos de una democracia participativa. Debemos construir la paz y la tranquilidad sobre la base efectiva del cumplimiento de la Constitución y la ley”, concluyó la cadena.
Three chains interrupt media outlet’s news programs in consecutive days
On 24, 25 and 26 March three chains interrupted Ecuavisa TV station’s news programs to discredit its interviewer, Alfredo Pinoargote; the manner in which the station presented the news of the prescription of the sentence imposed on former assemblyman Cléver Jiménez and Fernando Villavicencio; and of the demonstrators who marched against the government’s policies on 19 March, respectively. The Communications Secretariat spent 14 minutes broadcasting its views through this media outlet.
The first chain broadcasted on 24 March, which lasted 3 minutes, interrupted the interviews program Contacto Directo, directed by Alfredo Pinoargote, to say that he lied when he commented on the Duzac case. The chain stated: «Yesterday morning in this interview program when the Duzac case was addressed, Ecuavisa’s main interviewer, Alfredo Pinoargote, stated that the plaintiffs in the case are in no position to carry on because strangely they are not active politicians in Parliament anymore and he gave several names…». After explaining the reasons why the former assembly members had left Parliament, the government chain ended with the following phrase: «Therefore Mr. Pinoargote to be honest, Ecuavisa’s Contacto Directo’s viewers deserve respect».
The second chain, broadcasted on 25 March, which lasted for six minutes, interrupted the main evening news program and questioned Ecuavisa’s reports on the Jiménez and Villavicencio case and asserted that it is necessary to speak the truth and keep information within its real context out of respect for the viewers. «These days Ecuavisa’s news program’s viewers have heard several statements made by its reporters that are far from true concerning the Jiménez-Villavicencio case. The news program reported that they were only tried for asking that the events of 30 September should be investigated (…) Well this is not true, the fugitives Jiménez and Villavicencio, together with Carlos Figueroa, did not ask for an investigation, they directly accused the President of the Republic of crimes against humanity», said the voiceover.
After this, and after showing images of 30 September 2010, the day of the police uprising, the chain insisted there had been an attempted coup and asserted that Jiménez, Villavicencio and Figueroa lied and slandered and therefore were sentenced to prison. Regarding Villavicencio, the chain dedicated several minutes to discredit him and state that this is not the first time he evades justice, as he had already been sentenced to three months for libel before and did not go to prison that time either. The chain also questioned his degree in journalism which, according to it, was obtained from a university that has already closed for academic fraud, among other things.
Finally, the last chain broadcasted on 26 March lasted four and a half minutes and also interrupted the main evening news program to state there had been violent acts during the 19 March mobilization and that policemen had been attacked. «Some media outlets and many political actors say that the marches that took place on 19 March occurred as part of a festive and civic day, but was it really a civic and festive day?» «In our country, the right to protest is fully guaranteed by the Constitution and that is why citizens have absolute freedom to express their ideas, in compliance with legal regulations. But what happened during the so called March mobilization cannot be regarded as a peaceful demonstration in defense of human rights and freedoms (…) Violent actions cannot be part of a participatory democracy. We must build peace and tranquility based on effective compliance with the Constitution and the law», concluded the chain.
