Popular Tweeter user reports aggressions and announces that he will no longer make critical comments against the Government

On February 17, 2014, film maker and popular Tweeter user  Carlos Andrés Vera reported that he will no longer make any comments against the government through that social network. He reached this decision after a supporter of the Government published a picture of Vera´s toddler son, suggesting that porn film should be made with the child.

Vera is well-known for his critical remarks against the Government, and he has reached a number of 23.000 followers on Tweeter in his account @Polificcion. On this matter, Vera told Fundamedios that he has had all sorts of incidents in the past,  that his son had even been insulted once, but that this time “it was just over the top”.

“I´ve had trouble with my work, I´ve been assaulted, I´ve been insulted in several occasions. I put up with all this until they started messing with my son, I think one must know when to stop”, he mentioned.

In a post on his blog, polificcion.wordpress.com  Vera indicates: “Ever since I became active in Tweeter and Facebook I had to block some 3000 accounts, most of them because they insult me, and accuse me of the most absurd things. Some heartless people have even insulted my wife and mi kid, in two occasions. In five opportunities, people have insulted me in the street, I even had to defend myself with punches, when Correa´s fans assault me on the street. One person even insisted in knowing where  I live. Of all these agressions, only the attack outside the Supreme Court was reported, because it was the only one I would get evidence of”.

Besides these aggressions, Vera´s name is included in a list called “The nation traitors”, a website that exposes people who openly criticize the Government. He is accused of dedicating most of his time to discredit the Government on Tweeter”.

On February 15, Tweeter user @lapazecua published a picture of Vera´s toddler son, in response of a link that Vera posted in Correa´s profile, which contained porn material. Vera did so as an act of mockery to some comments the President made about some allegedly found porn videos on the computers that were seized to assembly man Clever Jiménez on December, 2013.

“That was something between adults. This guy however, was messing with my son. That was how this whole thing started”, Vera told. He indicated that he will start legal actions against the aggressor, who is well known for harassing those who criticize the Government on Tweeter”.
