El martes 17 de enero de 2012, los periodistas Hubel y Alcibiades Onofre, corresponsales de los medios televisivos incautados por el Estado, Gama y TC Televisión, fueron agredidos verbalmente y amenazados por desconocidos en la ciudad de Babahoyo (a 304 Km de Quito). Los hermanos atribuyen este hecho a la publicación de una noticia que vincula sentimentalmente a una mujer acusada de ser la autora intelectual de un triple asesinato, con el asambleísta de Sociedad Patriótica, Galo Lara.
Hubel Onofre aseguró a FUNDAMEDIOS que el martes pasado, sobre las 14:00, él y su hermano regresaban a su domicilio en Babahoyo, cuando fueron interceptados por un vehículo marca Hyundai Tucson con tres personas a bordo.
De acuerdo con el periodista y corresponsal de Gama, los ocupantes del vehículo les insultaron y amenazaron diciéndoles: «ya verán hijos de tal…» .
Hubel Onofre aseguró que es la primera vez que él y su hermano reciben este tipo de amenazas y presume que puede estar relacionado al hecho de que un día antes los periodistas emitieron, en sus respectivos medios, notas que vinculaban amorosamente a la mujer acusada del triple asesinato con el asambleísta Galo Lara.
«Tenemos miedo. En el canal no tenemos ningún tipo de seguro porque trabajamos por corresponsalías, pero seguimos trabajando por amor a la profesión», dijo Hubel Onofre.Los periodistas tenían previsto poner la denuncia ante la Fiscalía para que se investiguen los hechos.
Correspondents of media outlets that were seized by the state are threatened by unidentified persons
On Tuesday 17 January 2012, journalists Hubel and Alcibiades Onofre, correspondents of TV stations Gama and TCTelevisión, which were seized by the State, were verbally attacked and threatened by unidentified persons in the city of Babahoyo (304 km from Quito).The brothers attributed the event to the broadcasting of a news report that linked romantically a woman accused of being the intellectual author of a triple murder to SociedadPatriótica member of the assembly Galo Lara.
Hubel Onofre declared to FUNDAMEDIOS that on the previous Tuesday, at 2 pm approximately, he and his brother were returning to their home in Babahoyo when a Hyundai Tucson vehicle intercepted them with three people on board.
According to the journalist, who is a correspondent for Gama, the vehicle’s occupants insulted and threatened them saying:“Just wait and see, you sons of …”.
Hubel Onofre stated that this is the first time the brothers have received this kind of threat. He supposed it could be related to the fact that a day earlier the journalists had broadcasted, through their respective TV stations, reports that linked romantically the woman accused of a triple murder to member of the assembly Galo Lara.
“We are scared.We have no kind of insurance with the TV stations because we work as correspondents, but we keep on working because we love our profession”, said Hubel Onofre.
The journalists had planned to file a formal complaint before the Prosecutor’s Office so that the events wouldbe investigated.
