El 12 de septiembre de 2014, el expresidente del Consejo de la Judicatura de Transición, Paulo Rodríguez, en una carta de réplica enviada a diario El Universo, advirtió al medio de comunicación que “si persiste el intento de crear aunque sea sombra de dudas sobre mi persona, me veré obligado a ejercer el resto de potestades que la Patria ecuatoriana me provee en defensa de mis legítimos derechos”. Dicha misiva fue publicada por el rotativo en una página entera a seis columnas en la sección Judicial, como réplica a una serie de investigaciones presentadas por el periódico sobre contrataciones realizadas en el período en el que funcionó dicho Consejo, en ese entonces presidido por Rodríguez.
En la primera parte de la carta, Rodríguez afirmó, dirigiéndose al director del periódico, que “Usted y el diario El Universo me han causado un incalculable daño moral al pretender mancillar mi honor durante 7 días seguidos”. El Exfuncionario afirmó que existe “maldad” y “odio” “en las insinuaciones proferidas por el diario de su dirección con el infeliz propósito de tratar de desmerecer la honra de un ciudadano…” y aseguró que el diario “empezó a desarrollar una campaña dirigida a tratar de desprestigiar no solo mi honra y honor, sino también, y burdamente, el proceso de transformación moral, ética y civil de la justicia ecuatoriana” .
Tras exponer sus argumentos y refutar algunos puntos de las investigaciones, manifestó su advertencia y exigió al medio publicar su carta de manera íntegra, en los mismos espacios, con el mismo formato y en la misma cantidad de días que el diario utilizó para intentar desprestigiarlo.
Por su parte, El Universo, en una nota de la redacción rechazó que se les atribuya intenciones y se desvirtúe el objetivo de su investigación, a la vez que afirmó que en el trabajo realizado solo han mostrado hechos, respaldados en lo investigado, sin presentar juicios de valor.
Former official warned to a newspaper in a reply letter
On September 12, 2014, the former president of the Judicial Council of Transition, Mr. Paulo Rodríguez, in a letter of reply sent to journal El Universo, warned the media that «if persists the attempt to create even a shade of doubt about me, I will be forced to exercise all other powers that the Ecuadorian government provides me to defend my legal rights. «This letter was published by the newspaper on a full page and had six columns in the Judicial Section, in response to a lot of research presented by the newspaper on contracts signed in the period when the Council was headed by Rodriguez.
In the first part of the letter, Rodriguez said, addressing the message to the newspaper´s editor, saying that «You and the newspaper El Universo have caused me an enormous moral damage trying to stain my honor for 7 days straight.» The former official said there was «evil» and «hate» » on the insinuations told by the diary under his direction with the unhappy purpose of trying to detract the honor of a citizen …» and held that the newspaper «began to develop a targeted campaign to try of discredit not only my honor and morality, but also, roughly, the process of civilian moral transformation ethics and the Ecuadorian courts».
After presenting his arguments and refuted some points of the research, Rodriguez alleged his warning and demanded the media to publish his letter in a full way, in the same space, with the same format and the same number of days that the daily used to try to discredit him.
Meanwhile, El Universo in a note from the editor´s rejected the reliance of intentions of misplaced the purpose of the research, in the mean while the newspaper stated that the work done had only shown facts, backed them on the Researched, without presenting value judgments.
