El 9 de enero de 2016 el presidente Rafael Correa, durante su Enlace Ciudadano No 458 llamó a sus seguidores y a los funcionarios públicos a “reaccionar con la ley en la mano” para enjuiciar a los tuiteros Carlos Acosta (@caacosta1962 ) y Mauricio Chiluisa (@mauricio_Fese), después de que estos respondieran un desafío planteado por el Primer Mandatario la anterior sabatina para que le dijeran quiénes son “los nuevos ricos de Alianza PAIS”. Correa también pidió revelar la identidad de Acosta.
Tras referirse al caso de Sebastián Cevallos y la concejala Jeannine Cruz, quienes han sido condenados a prisión por proferir expresiones de deshonra a través de Twitter, el Jefe de Estado pidió que pongan en la web a los “cobardes que se esconden en Internet para insultar de la manera más soez” y mostró públicamente la cuenta de Carlos Acosta, el tuitero que publicó una lista de “nuevos ricos”.
“Todos ellos son corruptos. Nuevos ricos ¿por qué? , porque nos odia este tipo (…) Por si acaso cualquiera de estas personas incluida en esta lista pueden demandar a este señor con toda legitimidad”, afirmó Correa . Tras esto, advirtió: “Si alguien sabe quién es este cobarde, Carlos Acosta, publiquenlo en Twitter para ver si cuando se evidencie dónde vive, qué hace, etc.; sigue siendo tan valiente, pura cobardía, puro insulto en internet; eso no es libertad de expresión”, apuntó.
En esa misma tónica, el Presidente mencionó que “cualquier persona puede demandar a este tipo (Chiluisa) ¡Y ojalá lo haga! ¡Porque hay que sentar precedentes. No hay que tener miedo de utilizar la justicia! ¡Así se resuelven los problemas en los países civilizados. Así uno puede defender su honra de tanto malqueriente que cree que no tiene nada que perder!”, concluyó el Jefe de Estado.
President calls for revealing Twitter user’s identity and prosecute those who respond to his challenge in social networks
On January 9 2016, during his 458 weekly broadcast, President Rafael Correa called on his followers and public officials to «react with the law in their hands» to prosecute twitter users Carlos Acosta (@caacosta1962) and Mauricio Chiluisa (@mauricio_Fese), after they responded to a challenge issued by the president the previous Saturday to say who are «the nouveau riche of Alianza PAIS». Correa also requested that Acosta’s identity should be disclosed.
After referring to the case of Sebastián Cevallos and Councilwoman Jeannine Cruz, who have been sentenced to prison for uttering expressions against the honor of other persons through Twitter, the head of State asked for the names of those «cowards who hide in the Internet to insult in the most foul way» to be revealed on the web and publicly showed the account of Carlos Acosta, the Twitter user who published a list of «nouveau riche».
«All of them are corrupt. Why new rich? , because he hates us (…) Just in case, any of the people included in this list can sue this man quite legitimately», he said. Then he warned: «If anyone knows who this coward is, Carlos Acosta, publish it on Twitter to see if when his place of residence is known, what he does for a living, etc.; he continues to be as brave, it’s pure cowardice, pure insult on the internet; that is not freedom of expression», he said.
In that same vein, the president said that «anyone can sue this man (Chiluisa), and I hope they do it! Because we must set precedents. We should not be afraid to use justice! This is how problems are solved in civilized countries! This is how one can defend his honor from all these people who dislike us and have nothing to lose!», ended the head of State.
