La noche del 19 de febrero de 2015, la página satírica de Facebook Crudo Ecuador anunció públicamente su retiro ante “la presión y el acoso del gobierno” y tras haber recibido amenazas que atentan contra su vida y la de su familia.
El sitio publicó un texto de despedida bajo el título «Señor Presidente # UstedGanó» en el que dio las razones por las cuales no va a seguir. Entre ellas, el no tener garantías para continuar; la falta de seriedad de parte de autoridades en las investigaciones, luego de haber recibido amenazas a través de las redes sociales; así como las constantes descalificaciones a su página por parte del Presidente en su enlace sabatino.
“Me retiro porque usted se encargó de sembrar odio hacia mí, confundiendo a la gente cuando hablaba sobre mi página omitiendo que hay publicaciones para otros políticos (…) y no sólo ‘contra usted’ como lo afirma. Omitiendo que hay una nota de descargo al final de cada publicación Tratando de confundir el discurso de ironía y el humor con tuits de amenazas hacia usted que nada tienen que ver con mi página”, reza parte del escrito, el cual culmina con la siguiente afirmación “espero que entiendan que en un país donde se vulneran públicamente los derechos humanos, no se puede continuar, uno queda minúsculo ante el poder del Estado”.
Ese mismo día Fundamedios reportó sobre una amenaza en contra del administrador de la página satírica cuando desconocidos enviaron una nota anónima junto a un ramo de flores en donde lo identifican, con nombres y apellidos y, entre líneas, le advierten que lo están vigilando.
Antes, el administrador de esta página y quien había preferido defender su derecho al anonimato, fue expuesto en Twitter por parte de partidarios del Gobierno quienes habían identificado al administrador, su esposa e incluso publicaron fotos de un posible seguimiento en un centro comercial .
Como antecedente, el sábado 24 de enero, durante el enlace sabatino 408, el presidente Rafael Correa, descalificó y amenazó con revelar la identidad y exponer el rostro del administrador de Crudo Ecuador y lo acusó de hacer campaña de «desprestigio sistemática con sátira e ironía» y de «mentir y difamar¨ con el objetivo de dañar su imagen . En ese entonces, Correa afirmó que darán a conocer su nombre. «vamos a encontrar a esta persona para ver si es tan jocoso cuando todo el mundo sepa quién es (…) para ver si sigue siendo tan valiente este tipo (…) es un simple cobarde que se esconde en el anonimato para insultar y desfogar sus odios» (…) «es un cobarde y pronto sabremos quién es y lo conocerá el país» sentenció.
Satirical page Crudo Ecuador announces it is closing down after denouncing government harassment and pressure
On the evening of 19 February 2015, the satirical Facebook page Crudo Ecuador publicly announced its withdrawal in the face of “the government’s pressure and harassment” and after receiving threats that put at risk its administrator and his family’s lives.
The site published a farewell text titled “Mr. President # UstedGanó” in which the administrator gave the reasons why he will not go on. Among them, not having the necessary protection; the lack of seriousness in the authorities’ investigations of threats received through the social networks; and the president’s constant condemnation of the page in his Saturday program.
“I am withdrawing because you took on the task of sowing hatred against me, confusing people when talking about my page, omitting the fact there are publications for other politicians (…) and not only ‘against you’ as you claim. Omitting that there is a disclaimer at the end of each publication Trying to confuse the discourse of irony and humor with tweets of threats against you that are in no way linked to my page”, reads part of this note, which ends with the following statement “I hope you understand that in a country where human rights are publicly infringed, it is impossible to go on, one is miniscule before the power of the State».
That same day Fundamedios reported a threat against the administrator of the satirical page when unidentified persons sent an anonymous note with a bouquet of flowers identifying him by his name and surname and warning, in between the lines, that he was being watched.
Prior to this, the administrator of this satirical Facebook page, who had preferred to defend his right to anonymity, was exposed on Twitter by government supporters who had identified him, his wife and even posted photos of a possible pursuit in a mall.
As background, on Saturday 24 January, during his 408 Saturday program, President Rafael Correa, condemned and threatened to reveal the identity and expose the face of Crudo Ecuador’s administrator, as well as accusing him of a “systematic smear campaign using satire and irony” and of “lying and slandering” with the aim of damaging his image. At the time, Correa stated he would announce the administrator’s name. “We are going to find this person to see if he is so funny when everyone knows who he is (…) to see if he continues being so brave (…) he is just a coward who hides in anonymity to insult and vent his hatred” (…) “he is a coward and we will soon know who he is and the country will know”, he asserted.
