El 27 marzo de 2012, el periodista Juan Alcívar, corresponsal de diario la Hora y ex corresponsal de Radio El Nuevo Sol, en La Concordia (costa norte del Ecuador) renunció a su corresponsalía en la emisora, tras ser censurado, al aire, mientras entrevistaba a un asambleísta de un partido opositor al régimen.
Alcívar aseguró a FUNDAMEDIOS que el incidente, en donde se cortó abruptamente la comunicación durante una entrevista, coincidió con la visita del presidente Rafael Correa y su equipo a Quinindé, ciudad matriz de la emisora .
«Estábamos dialogando con el asambleísta Línder Atalfuya (de Movimiento Popular Democrático) sobre la situación del país, a propósito de las marchas indígenas, cuando abruptamente se cortó la comunicación.
Al preguntar a la gente de controles sobre lo que había pasado y si era un problema técnico, me dijeron que era una disposición del dueño de la radio porque era en contra del gobierno y la gente del gobierno estaba de visita en Quinindé».
Aseguró el periodista. Henry Córdoba, gerente de la emisora, dijo que no hubo ningún tipo de presión por parte del Gobierno y se mostró sorprendido por la denuncia del periodista Alcívar, quien, por el incidente, dejó la corresponsalía que cumplía con ese medio de comunicación.
Radio journalist resigns position as correspondent after being censored
On 27 March 2012, journalist Juan Alcívar, correspondent of the newspaper La Hora and former correspondent of radio station El Nuevo Sol, in La Concordia (northern coast of Ecuador) resigned his position in the radio station after he was censored, while on the air, as he interviewed an opposition member of the Assembly.
Alcívar stated to FUNDAMEDIOS that the incident, which meant the radio signal was abruptly interrupted during an interview, coincided with a visit by President Rafael Correa and his team to Quinindé, the station’s headquarters.
I was having a conversation with member of the Assembly LínderAtalfuya (of the Democratic Popular Movement) about the country’s situation, concerning the indigenous marches, when the communication was cut abruptly. When I asked the people in charge of controls what had happened and if it had been a technical problem, they told me it had been an order issued by the station’s owner because I was going against the government and government people were visiting Quinindé”.
Henry Córdoba, the station’s manager, said the government had not exerted any kind of pressure and he showed surprise at Alcívar’s report. The journalist left his position at theradio station because of this incident.
