El sábado 28 de diciembre de 2013, durante su enlace sabatino No. 354 el presidente Rafael Correa, arremetió contra el periodista Roberto Aguilar, Editor de contenidos de diario Hoy, llamándolo «sicario de tinta», a la vez que expuso su fotografía, por una crónica que hace referencia a la novena navideña llevada a cabo en el Palacio Presidencial.
Correa descalificó al periodista en su segmento la canallada de la semana: “… veamos otro sicario de tinta que da pena por su amargura y puede sacar tanto odio de una novena navideña (…) Cuánta canallada» sentenció.
Según el Primer Mandatario en la crónica de Aguilar se lo hace ver como que impone «experiencias religiosas al pueblo», y siguió «qué pena, que tortura tendrá esta gente en su alma y su mala fe…» Enseguida, el Mandatario hizo que una funcionaria de la Presidencia explicara que esta Novena se lleva a cabo desde hace 20 años.
Acto seguido Correa ordenó «Ponme la foto de este tipo . Esto no es libertad de expresión…» a la vez que dijo a los asistentes «los ciudadanos decentes tenemos derecho a protestar por esta burla de nuestras costumbres (…) Esto es un abuso de un tipo mala fe, envenenado», siguió fustigando contra el periodista, «Este es el tipo, veánle bien que se mete en todo. Una vez se metió en el acto de la bandera de mi hija en el colegio mismo y escribió tonterías y media. Es eso libertad de expresión? No es libertad de extorsión (…) Pónganlo en pantalla, este es si se muerde la lengua se envenena. Solo destilan odio, dan pena pero, si indigna».
La crónica que motivo la arremetida del Presidente contra Aguilar, se publicó en diario Hoy, el pasado 22 de diciembre bajo el título Correa vibro con el burrito sabanero, donde el periodista reseña paso a paso el acto religioso, incluidas las actuaciones del Primer Mandatario durante este evento.

On Saturday December 28, 2013 , President Rafael Correa attacked the journalist Roberto Aguilar, Editor of Hoy newspaper, calling him «ink hitman” , while exhibiting his photography, due to a chronic referred to a Christmas event in the Presidential Palace he published in that newspaper.
Correa discredited the journalist in a segment of his weekly national broadcast called: “the villainy of the week: » … see another ink hitman who I feel sorry for, he is bitter and gets affected for a Christmas event ( … ) what a villainy» he said.
According to the President, in the chronic, Aguilar suggests that the event appeared as if it was imposing » religious experiences to the people» . Correa further mentioned: «what a shame, what troubles do have this people in their soul that makes them act in such bad faith … » Next, the President made a public officer from the Presidency explained that this event is held for 20 years .
Then Correa ordered: «Show the picture of this guy. This is not freedom expression… » while he told the audience: «decent citizens have right to protest this mockery of our traditions (…) This is an abuse of a guy, that is poisoned and acts in bad faith». He continued lashing against the reporter: «This is the guy, see him well, he gets into everything . Once he got into an event at my daughter´s school while they were paying respect to the flag, and wrote some nonsense as well. Is that free speech? That is freedom of extortion ( … ) show it on screen, he is, if he bites his own tongue he will be poisoned . They distill only hate, but I feel sorry, this is outrageous».
The chronic that motivated the President´s accusation against Aguilar was published in Hoy newspaper on 22 December under the title ‘Correa vibró con el burrito sabanero” (Correa enjoyed dancing along the “burrito sabanero”, a Christmas Carol”) in which the journalist commented the religious ceremony that took place for Christmas, including the proceedings of the President for this event.
